Unfortunately Reed is the type of player Bennett doesn't drop... we've seen it in the past.
Bennett loves his toilers, and is showing it with keeping Maranta (hardly has a choice at the moment) and Reed in the team.

Just like stagg and lowrie right?

To be fair to Maranta and I know your feelings towards him Porthoz even he is making more of a case for selection in first grade then Reed is.

Guess who was there in support and as decoy in Glenn's try?
Gillett needs to do less decoy and more scoring though, for the sake of the 69'ers!

Hunt and Gillett need to work together a whole lot more.

For mine - despite the anti-Gillett brigade around here - Gillett is amongst the best ball playing and ball running back rowers there is and we just don't use his skills nearly enough.

How does Reed keep getting picked? What do coaches see in him that the rest of us don't.

I am surprised Vidot remained in the team though

Guess Wayne couldnt pass up on the metre eater. Nearly 200m last week.

Weren't you predicting Stagg & Lowrie to be in our 17 all season because Bennett only picks veterans who are good defensively?

That argument has sailed my friend.

I'll admit i was wrong about one of Lowrie and Stagg getting continuously picked... But it seems i was right about Reed getting continuously picked.

He has been poor this year, and most of last year for that matter.

Griffin obviously kept picking him because his manual "coaching for dummies" didn't specifically tell him to drop Reed.

What's Bennetts excuse. He doesn't need to follow that same manual

The minority report:

Reed played well against the Roosters. He would be my choice for wing. Copley is a waste on the wing. Reed is good under the high ball and again, people seem to forget how well he played on the wing during his penance last year. Well ... I thought he played well out there last year. He combined well with the edge and was good under the high ball. If it came down to a choice between Reed and Maranta, I know who I'd go for.

As far as I can tell the reason Reed is being picked is because of injury. Perhaps Wayne views Kahu has a specialist Centre, and the only way he's able to play there is once Darius is back.

I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Reed is gone once Darius is back again, assuming Kahu & Copley don't fall off a cliff.

Won't Copley attack at centre and defend on the wing like the first round?

I would prefer copely and reed to swap copely has shown he can defend.
However with so many injuries/suspensions can't really blame him for keeping reed in the team what's the alternative.

I'll be interested to see who makes the cut when Boyd and Kahu are back.

Confused about Bennett's selection. Surely Vidot should be in the number 2 outside Reed on the left (where he was all 2014) and Copley plays 5 outside Hodges.

That way in attack when Hodges is sweeping around playing fullback we have
1. Hodges
2. Vidot
3. Reed
4. Copley
5. Maranta

As opposed to
1. Hodges
2. Reed
3. Copley
4. Maranta
5. Vidot

I know Copley will be playing centre in attack like before he was injured; him and Reed would swap. But our two best centres when Hodges is playing fullback in attack are Reed and Copley. Why would Bennett put them both on the same side and leave Maranta or god forbid Vidot playing the other centre?

I'm curious as to why Bennett would bother with Oates on the bench when we have other options.

I thought this would have been the perfect time to bring back Joe. The Dragons forward pack is nothing special and I think he could actually do some damage.

That would leave us with no second rowers on the bench and three props instead. I know all of our second row can play 80 but ideally they won't be.

We had 3 props on the bench against the Roosters.

At first I was a bit confused by the selections but once I noticed Corey on the bench it made a bit more sense. Blair still hasn't returned so Thaiday plays prop and Oates gets a run in forwards off the bench.

I think this is the best squad he could've named all things considered. If current form continues one would have to imagine reed will be left out if we ever have a full strength team.

I'm excited to see Oates have a crack at 2nd row

Could it be due to Oates knack for finding gap and/or the tryline. Hasnt had many chances this year as lucky Jacks hands are sticky as ever.
Ill admit that he's made a few mistakes this year too. Dropping a highball. Getting run around only for Jack to cover.
But he also hads some tackle busting runs, tackled Cooper low and hard causing Cooper to vomit. Stripping the ball from Roberts over the line to save a try. I think he'll go alright.
