POST GAME Round 7 - Dragons vs Broncos

Was Hodges really injured???

Did anyone else notice that Hodges had a sheepish smirk on his face after half time??

I've got a little suspicion that Hodges wasn't injured, he was just hooked by Bennett.

Surely if he was injured he would of had ice on his hammy.

Hodgo never said he was injured in the presser, just that he felt a bit sore and didn't want to push it in his first game back.

Yeah, well for mine, playing him went a long way to explaining why we lost. Those 2 points, as someone else posted, will likely bite us at the end of the season.

What is this - playing the 2nd top side being a training run for him? Grrrrr

Honestly, despite Daniel's mistakes, we would've been better off with Maranta replacing Hodges at fullback than Vidot on the wing.
Hodges cannot play fullback in defense as he showed last night, he is simply horrendous at it, period!
He should have been the one defusing the grubber in the first place, not Vidot, and he should have been binned when he took Widdop out, but was lucky with the outcome...

Vidot certainly carries a high burden, because his mistakes led directly to a try against us and he bombed one, but he was very good otherwise last night, attacking, defending, bomb defusing and especially carrying the ball.

Maranta wouldn't have scored the first try, and I'm not sure if he would have scored the second, but would most likely have been there to clean up that grubber properly from fullback.

Just quietly the number of soft-tissue injuries we've had over the last 3 months is a bit of a concern. I know most performance department's deem them as preventable injuries so I have to question what's going on? Hodges is always going to be at risk due to his long history of them as previous injury is pretty much the number 1 risk factor in regard to hamstring injury, but the others certainly don't have the history he does.

We weren't at the races last night. Plus we were missing a few and lost a couple in game. I think our halves got taught a lesson tbh. Our kicking game was poor and is generally poor imo anyway. If we had Thurston at half back i think we would win the comp easy.

Well said broncospwn

Im going to do some Vidot defense as well. I will admit he made some costly mistakes but he made more meters than anyone else on our team, defused bombs, made a line break, a try saver and worked hard. Wasn't brilliant but I don't think he was as useless as some are saying.

I was a fan a Vidot last year and shitty about his non inclusion the start of this year. Beside Milford all our boys seem to of improved beside Vidot. When you only win or lose games by under 10 points 2 mistakes that lead to tries in 2 of his 3 games is not good enough. I can see him putting in a effort but last year effort was all we could hope for for our squad.

This year is different we can push the top teams and be one of the top teams. We are not a side that can win by 20 every week where single errors don't decide results.

If a player gets bombed too 10 times in every game and only drops 1 every game which leads to a try is he a asset or a liability?

Some points from last night...
Milford worst game for us but he was heavily targeted and rushed up on
I don't know if it's bcos Bennett pointed it out but Vidots meters are replaceable, his errors cost us 10-12 points! (

McCullough, McGuire and Parker played well. Thaiday played well but definitely went in his shell compared to last week. While that was expected eventually bcos u can't keep up that aggression over a season, would have been nice to get a couple more games out of it, I thank Tallis for that, Bennetts mind games were working
Nikorima took on he fullback role brilliantly with limited prep I thought
Milford should have been fb instead of hodges on kick returns
Great defence! Our attack will come with Boyd and kahu coming back.
Overall I'm not that disappointed bcos I think we would have lost a game out of complacency over the next few weeks had we won last night. And the fact our attack wasn't flowing and we were away to the best defence in The league yet we were still in the game is a great sign. We have more upside then the dragons, much more. That was there big "prove them wrong" game (eg our roosters win)

thaiday didn't go into his shell, he was getting monster by their whole pack and none of ours were backing him up. Thaiday had a target on his head because of last week but this week didn't have the backing of his pack.

Milford looked like he was going to cry after the match. Leeson Ah Mau went up to him twice after full time, to offer some support, but he was dead set terrible. Surely this five-eighth experiment is not working.

Forget about setting the world on fire, but for someone with his supposed "skill-set" he should be able to show something that will suggest he'll be a decent five-eighth. At least be able to throw a decent pass. He's been compared to JT and Lockyer, but honestly, at Milford's age, surely they could all pass, kick and do the basics.

Even during his time at Canberra he showed he lacked ballplaying or playmaking ability. Its actually embarrassing how he can't even throw a pass. Like seriously he can't do anything required of a five-eighth. He threw a horrible looking pass to Reed which went like three metres forward and barely even got to him. He's kicks are for the most part terrible. He has no organisational skill. I'd dare say Hoffman offered more in the same amount of time.

If you look at most young halves, Brooks, Moses, Elgey, even Bird who was a centre/second-rower in the NYC, they have all shown some playmaking ability. Milford has shown nothing that suggests he's a half.

I agree that yes he was targeted... Milford is targeted every week but if someone merely suggests that then it's an "excuse". I still think Thaiday played well but you cannot deny he didnt lead with aggression like last week. He got monstered a few times last week. He got back up last week bcos he inspired, not saying he should have to to get it but that helped spur on the pack last week. He was still in the top 5 players for us easily, so I'm not bagging him. He just should have went for Merrin I think the same way he went for Hargreaves

I think ppl are getting too worried that Milford will turn in to another barba... There's a few MASSIVE differences tho... Youth on his side, barba had an ankle injury that stuffed his speed off the mark, and most importantly, Bennett. Bennett will change things once or if it starts losing us games consistently & he has brought in the best to help him. Let's not forget he turned Lockyer in to the worlds best 5/8th. It took lockyer half a season to get to level where ppl said it wasn't a failure and a season and a half to be deemed the worlds best when he was already the worlds best player in his prior position

Not much to say, everyone bar macca was poor. Milford was absolutely woeful. We need another goal kicker we can't keep this shit up with Parker. Parker is one of my favourite players but this is just not good enough

He had 20/24 before last night at 83%- is goal kicking really an issue?

Yes but vidots 2 mistakes cost us at least 8 points.

Your agenda is showing pretty bad right now tbh

You can't just include errors that cost points as game changing- if a player makes an error that costs 80m and then they score on the back of a fumbled kick next play. It isn't only the fumbled kick that cost you points.

The penalty goal he missed last night was one that clutch kickers don't miss, so yes, I think it is.

We are taking the 2 points a lot these days. If we are to make that work then we frankly can't afford to miss any of them unless it's a desperation play like Kyle Feldts 57m attempt.
