On form we'll get lapped. I'm hoping Souths were so up for Manly they suffer a bit of a let down. We'll know where we stand after next week at least.

we are a good a chance of anyone else in the comp at beating them.

3 weeks ago, I was dreading this fixture. After the recent weeks' efforts, I am really looking forward to this litmus test.

The problem we have is that we tend to play up or down to the intensity of the team we are playing. Tigers first half, we could have put 40 on. Instead we went into caretaker mode and allowed the Tigers Toyota Cup squad playing with a bit of energy and passion back into the game.

Broncos were out to make a statement but just sort of fizzled out.

I don't think we'll make that same mistake against Souths, and if anything were possibly preparing ourselves for this week mentally half way through the second half against the Tigers.

RE: Kemp - I'm a fan but does he really offer anything more (on the whole) than Maranta? Fair enough he is quicker than Maranta, but can you name an instance yet were Maranta has had an opportunity where speed came into play?

I think Maranta returns the ball much better than Kemp and making those early yards and building a good platform of the kick return is 75% of a winger's job in attack. The other 20% is catching high balls (neither Kemp or Maranta stand out), with the balance open space speed (probably Kemp).

Stick with Maranta.

Expecting a similar start to the Storm game. But the Rabbitohs have a bad tendency to fade out and no old firm of C,S & S to finish off weaker opponents.

Broncos to swoop after trailing at half time. Should be a cracker either way.

Stick with Maranta.

There have been two occasions where Maranta should have scored but put either a foot or his torso on the sideline. Kemp would have walked over the line with the room available. And even more frequently there have been times where Hodges has created space and Maranta is either standing flat or positioned badly and the play has died. Again, Kemp would be rocketing on to the ball, and would have had ample space, to get over. As a safe (until Saturday anyway), big, strong winger, Maranta is fine. But we have no speed anywhere and if Hodges has speed outside him then the right side attack becomes twice as lethal.

Maranta also has frequently dropped Hodges off loads now he is off loading to Gillett

Yeah Hodges has no faith in Maranta at all, you can see it. We need Kempy damn it. Maranta does not return the ball well and at least certainly not better than Kemp.

I think Souths are the real deal this year unlike previous seasons where they had noticeable weaknesses.I actually think the next game will give us a reasonable guide as to our chances this year. The Broncs are not the force they were when WB was here, no surprise really. While a win is possible I think we will be underdogs and by some margin. I have faith still but contrasted with Melbourne , the benchmark team we look a grade below. Sadly I just cannot see Brisbane winning the comp this year. Hope to be wrong !

this is benny hannants game to remind the league he is still one of the best props in the game against the big souths pack.

if we are to win, he will be man of the match.

The big show needs to get more minutes as well and really put it to the Souths. We need our fowards to take it up another notch, is that possible though? If Griffin sorts out his interchanges/bench properly than probably.

Keep Inglis quiet and match their forwards and I reckon we can grind a win out of this one. Discipline is crucial, minimal mistakes and capitalise on every opportunity we can.

There is a lot of talk about how big and awesome the Souths pack is. True, but ours is underrated. McGuire, Hannant, Thaiday, Glenn, Parker, Gillett. If only Macca could play 80 minutes...

Agree on all counts. Souths will be in the running for the GF this year (as they were last year, but this year they are more a chance IMO). Broncos will be there or thereabouts for the 8, but can't progress beyond week 2. Think it highly unlikely the Broncos will win this week, but it'll be a good test to see how much we've actually improved since the Storm game 4 rounds ago.

We've got this one. Some clubs just have bogey teams, think Raiders v Dragons & Warriors v Cowboys. We're Souths'. I could be wrong, but we have our best club record against Souths.

Yep. Think we've only lost 2 or 3 times to them since 1990.

Even though I don't particularly rate Adam Reynolds, as he doesn't offer anything but a kicking game, that could be the thing that gets us. Norman is far from being reliable back there, Maranta lacks confidence and Hoffman still might be adjusting to the wing.
