I think Dearden at 14 would have limited to no value, he's isn't versatile enough to play anywhere else other than 7 or 6. Unless you're banking on everything going super sweet and giving him the last 10 minutes each week but that's a complete waste. He would be better playing 80 minutes for Wynnum.

I think he's in at half or he's out. I think too throwing him in off the bench in halves wouldn't work too well. He hasn't shown he's assertive enough yet and hasn't adapted to Wynnum quickly an NRL game would be a nightmare.

I think he needs to be out there feeling his way from the start.
Exactly they should have run him in the MM comp then 20s with some Qcup towards the end of the year

Fifita to stay where he is. Putting him at centre is just stupid.

Bird to stay where he is. We need his energy on that left side.

Yeah why put a fast, strong ,skillful player in the centers instead of the bench, plain dumb !

Apparently Niko is close to being ruled out, Bad cork in his leg
Most likely last game

If Roberts really is headed to Souths next week, do we really want him on the field this week?
I doubt that he would be selected if this were true. Why would he wait a week before leaving and why wouldn't the Broncos just tell him to "**** off" now? Again, another rumour which doesn't make a whole lotta sense. Click bait for the space cadets, methinks.

Yeah it is.

Weakening one position just to put him in a position where we don't need him.

It was in reference to if Roberts left and if we moved bird to 6 . Second row is not a position we are lacking in and he hasn't even been starting there , so how would it weaken his bench position?

The rivalry between the Broncos and the Rabbitohs reaches new heights this Thursday, but it’s a feud that has always simmered along in the background. Do you remember these 10 games?

1988, ROUND 14 AT SYDNEY FOOTBALL STADIUM

Rabbitohs 16 def Broncos 4
WAYNE Bennett’s Broncos exploded onto the NSWRL scene in their debut season and held an impressive 9-4 record heading into their Round 14 clash with South Sydney.
But only a brave punter would’ve picked between second-placed Brisbane and the Rabbitohs, who sat just behind in fourth after a strong start to the year.
More than 10,000 fans turned out for their inaugural clash at the SFS and it was hosts South Sydney who shot out of the blocks, scoring three first-half tries through Phile Blake, Bruce Longbottom and Adam O’Neil and building a formidable 16-0 lead at the break.
Wally Lewis and Alfie Langer tried to spark a fightback in the second stanza but the visitors could only manage one score to hooker Brett Le Man as the Rabbitohs ground out a famous 16-4 victory, laying the platform for a classic NRL rivalry.

1994, ROUND 14 AT QEII

Broncos 40 def Rabbitohs 10
REIGNING back-to-back premiers Brisbane found themselves struggling to make headway as they chased a hat-trick of titles in 1994.
The Broncos languished in ninth midway through the season and needed a spark to keep their finals dream alive.
Meanwhile, South Sydney was the form team – Ken Shine’s men had overcome the early yips to bag seven wins on the trot, including a 20-14 win over recent grand finalists St George, and were out to bury the demons of 1993’s embarrassing 54-8 loss in Brisbane.
But the Rabbitohs went home with their tails between their legs as Steve Renouf and Wendell Sailor bagged hat-tricks in a 40-10 shellacking that put the Broncos’ year back on track.
It didn’t even matter that Terry Matterson and Julian O’Neill only managed two from nine off the tee with tries to John Driscoll, Chris McKenna and O’Neill completing the rout.

2011, ROUND 16 AT NIB STADIUM

Rabbitohs 16 def Broncos 12
Who could ever forget the “Wet One”?
In the first NRL game on WA soil since the Western Reds folded, South Sydney and Brisbane were greeted with torrential rain and spent 80 minutes combining rugby league with water polo.
A vocal crowd of 15,371 braved the elements as the Rabbitohs ground out an error-riddled 16-12 win but few could forget the sight of Rhys Wesser scoring the best of his 129 NRL tries with a monster splash.
The fullback launched himself onto a pinpoint kick in-goal from Chris Sandow that bamboozled Jack Reed after stopping dead in a puddle for one of the great tries in South-Broncos history.
South Sydney coach John Lang was feeling the love too and broke character with a hilarious victory slide across the water-logged surface after the game.

2015, ROUND 25 AT ALLIANZ STADIUM

Broncos 47 def Rabbitohs 12
2014 was a magical year for South Sydney and 36,000 fans turned out to watch Brisbane lock horns with the reigning champions in Round 1, 2015.
The Rabbitohs emerged 36-6 winners off the back of an Adam Reynolds masterclass but the rematch in Round 25 was an even bigger affair.
A red-hot Broncos side eager to secure top spot travelled to Sydney and piled on a 47-12 drubbing that effectively ended Souths hopes of back-to-back titles.
Ben Hunt crossed for a hat-trick while Jordan Kahu and Anthony Milford scored two tries apiece, launching their charge to the grand final while the Rabbitohs went on to lose their final game against Melbourne and stumble in their qualifier against Cronulla.

Broncos 56 def Rabbitohs 6
FRESH from the disappointment of missing a premiership hat-trick in ‘94, Brisbane bounded into ‘95 with renewed vigour and notched seven straight wins to kickstart their campaign.
A mid-season falter ensued but the Broncos were always a threat as Bennett’s side finished third before bowing out in straight finals sets.
Conversely, South Sydney were a team in ruins – they had managed just 4 wins from 19 games and with finals out of the question offered little resistance to the visiting Brisbane juggernaut.
Darren Lockyer delivered a best on ground performance as Michael Hancock and Darren Smith bagged a hat-trick apiece in the 56-6 demolition.
To add further insult to injury, Rabbitohs backrower Paul Quinn was sent off as Ken Shine’s Brisbane hoodoo continued.
The 50-point margin remains a record between the two sides.

2004, ROUND 25, SYDNEY FOOTBALL STADIUM

Broncos 34 draw Rabbitohs 34
THE August 28 clash between Brisbane and South Sydney will go down as one of the most unlikely and entertaining results in NRL history.
The Broncos (3rd) had already secured their finals berth and were short odds to dispatch the lowly Rabbitohs (15th), who were losing support after dropping six games on the trot.
It was hardly surprising to see just 7000 fans in the stands but those select few couldn’t believe their luck as the two sides duked out a thrilling 34-all draw.
The Broncos held a comfortable 18-8 halftime lead before Ashley Harrison orchestrated one of the great comebacks, sending the likes of Roy Bell and Bryan Fletcher over and bagging a try of his own to spark a scoring run that saw South Sydney lead 34-28 with seven minutes to play.
Two missed field goal attempts from Joe Williams would come back to haunt the Rabbitohs as Neville Costigan scored late to square things up but there was more drama to come as forward passes twice denied Karmichael Hunt the winning try in the dying minutes.
Eventually neither side could convert in golden point, leaving referee Jason Robinson to call a draw after 90 minutes of exhilarating rugby league.

2006, ROUND 14, STADIUM AUSTRALIA

Rabbitohs 34 def Broncos 14
THERE was little doubt of Brisbane’s premiership credentials in 2006 and the Broncos opened their campaign with a 10-3 record to sit clear atop the NRL ladder halfway through the season.
By contrast, South Sydney were effectively cannon fodder after losing 13 games in a row and all but guarantee themselves wooden spoon status.
Still, you’d think Brisbane would’ve learned the perils of facing the Rabbitohs at home after 2004’s epic draw…
Not so. In the midst of their most miserable season of the professional era, brothers Ben and Shane Walker lifted Souths to an impossible 34-14 win over the eventual premiers, who missed Darren Lockyer’s poise in a second half collapse.
Nathan Merritt and Luke MacDougall bagged doubles as the Rabbitohs kicked on from their 16-10 half time lead to leave their bewildered fans both overjoyed and frustrated beyond belief.

2009, ROUND 19, SUNCORP STADIUM

Rabbitohs 44 def Broncos 12
Tries, tackles, Tonie Caroll knocking out referees – this was the match that had it all.
Both Brisbane (9th) and South Sydney (10th) were finals prospects with eight rounds to play and more than 50,000 spectators piled in to Suncorp for the high-stakes clash. The Rabbitohs hadn’t tasted success in Brisbane since 1989 and built a 16-6 lead at halftime with Chris Sandow pulling the strings at halfback.
The second half was then thrown into chaos when referee Tony De Las Heras was knocked out cold by an accidental Tonie Carroll knee in the 66th minute.
Touch judge Phil Haines took over in the middle and the Broncos never recovered as Rabbitohs centre Beau Champion bagged a late hat-trick to help secure a 44-12 win and break their Brisbane drought.

2017, ROUND 8, ANZ STADIUM

Broncos 25 def Rabbitohs 24
South Sydney still hasn’t recovered from this one.
A 78th minute field goal saw Brisbane snatch a dramatic 25-24 victory away from home but the match remains infamous for a string of contentious rulings, all of which centred around Anthony Milford.
The Broncos playmaker was booed by Rabbitohs fans after potting a penalty goal despite being required to leave the field for a HIA and courted controversy again after his involvement in a crucial Tautau Moga try late in the game.
Milford then came under fire for an apparent fumble in the lead up to his match-winning field goal but the bunker ruled in his favour and Brisbane emerged victorious.
Then-Rabbitohs skipper Robbie Farah suggested his team was “probably a bit unlucky” while the Brisbane squad required a police escort at halftime, such was the ire of South Sydney supporters.

2014, ROUND 8, SUNCORP STADIUM

Rabbitohs 28 def Broncos 26
It was the win that anchored South Sydney’s charge to a drought-breaking premiership.
Three early trianes to Apisai Koroisau, Alex johnston and Greg Inglis saw the Rabbitohs lead 14-0 after 14 minutes but the Broncos weren’t to be outdone, scoring three of their own through Andrew McCullough, Lachlan Maranta and Matt Gillett to take a slim 16-14 lead at the break.
McCullough sent Suncorp into a frenzy after the break with his second try before George Burgess barreled over to square things up in the 52nd minute.
A Jack Reed try put Brisbane back in front but Corey Parker’s missed conversion left the door open for South Sydney, who set up a grandstand finish when Kirisome Auva’a dotted down in the 73rd minutes after a dubious obstruction ruling.
Adam Reynolds then calmly potted the conversion to level the scores before slotting a 79th minute penalty to kickstart South Sydney’s title run.

What keeps bugging me is that Deardon has been playing as 5/8 in the games I have watched him. I know there is not much difference nowadays, but has he ever played 7?

I mean Milford is basically our halfback as it is now
