PRE-GAME Round 8 - Warriors vs Broncos

Can anyone name another successful team in the comp that lists a utility and an outside back on their bench?

Both Seibold's choice of players on the bench and his use of the bench consistently causes one to scratch their head bemusement...
I think he is running out of options. He has used almost everyone on the roster. I guess he feels an outside back and a utility on the bench will serve him better than a Kennedy or a Hopoate who are both clearly not first grade standard and are barely park footy standard. I'm no Seibs fan but he has so little to work with here considering the injury/suspension list each game is constantly at 7-8 players (even more) which leaves him about 22-24 players to pick a squad of 17.

And when most of these players are struggling in a bottom placed side, it is a real shit fight to pick a competitive squad each week. I wouldn't want his job and I'm sure he doesn't even want it anymore because with each match, the situation becomes even worse.

A bit harsh on Kennedy. He isn't great by any means, don't get me wrong but he gives it his all every game. He never slacks off and in a horrible uncommitted squad like this, that is like gold.

So here's a controversial conundrum: do we want to cobble together a win against a busted team this weekend or would we be better off in the long term losing badly to compel a much needed sea-change?
To tell the truth, and i am happy to be accused as not being a fan, i would not mind losing. A win would gloss over the major issues within the team and club (making the finals did this last year) and give the board an excuse and just say it was a slump. Another loss would put more pressure on the board to take action.

As has been said, even our victories are not a result of good coaching or a well drilled team.

Simple fact is, we wont win a premiership under seibold. Does the board want to stick with seibold, see the club deteriorate further, lose currrent and future players, lose fans/memberships and sponsers (particularly when a second brisbane team commences) and then have to go for another "rebuild" under a new coach when they finally sack seibold.

All they need to do is look at parra. Dominant in the 80s but poor leadership, problems with the board and other issues and they are 35+ years without a premiership.

I don't mind Kennedy and have commented favorably about him in the past. But the faster game just doesn't suit his giant, lumbering frame. No doubt, he tries his hardest but the speed of the game is making him (and players like him) redundant.

Oats - the chop Boyd injured at training ?

I think he's had his best games in attack on the edge and his best games in defence in the middle. I dunno if you can make it work like that though.
But it's not like he was poor in attack when in the middle.

Also if he's lining up on the inside of Milf or Croft, it's not all that hard to have him jump on the other side as another option with the edge second rower.

Imagine sweeping from the left hand sideline and Croft has TPJ > Fifita > Staggs > Coates with Niu sweeping around the back.

Those two forwards running lines together is a tactic that was created by the roosters and the half just has to pick out which one is not being covered... with TPJ and Fifi it wouldn't even matter if one of them was covered!!

Kennedy was a Seibold signing - possibly a decent signing for NSW team with an experienced forward pack to learn from but not the Broncos in it's current position. At least he looks like he is trying.

No idea how Hopoate even ended up as a Bronco but his previous experience seems to have been a jail in NSW - possibly dropping soap.

I'm still not even sure why we signed Arthurs. Like Kennedy he is probably a good pick up for an experienced team.

Are we not allowed to recruit from Qld anymore?

A proper win with the team actually playing as a team would be golden. A win where it's a few moments of brilliance from a few players masking the absolute mediocrity of our coach would just paper over the cracks, assuming the decision makers at the club just want the heat to go away. I'm not sure yet another loss would compel them to give Tubby his marching papers given the limitless dross he's dished up during his tenure here. Even if it would though I'd have a pretty hard time hoping for a loss.

Uhm, it appears that Seibold will not be sacked in the short term (or even the middle term) so a loss this week will not change anything.
I'm not too sure about that, a week is a long time in Rugby League. A lopsided defeat vs the Warriors (who are akin to a pub team who have to scrape enough players each week to form a team, even borrowing from other clubs) and his ass is grass.

A narrow loss or a win will save him as he'll proclaim "the club is turning the corner" before being belted the next week. He is a dead man walking and despite the board stating otherwise, they will come to a point where they will have to swallow their pride and cut their losses. Seibs won't last the season.

If they have the mystery perfmance clause and can limit the payout, yep, I agree with you. If they have to pay out 3-4 years, they will persevere for this season at least.

I think Kennedy has been one of our better bench players. As for Hoppa, I'm not convinced he's quite up to NRL standard yet.

I think that Oates would actually be a better choice on the bench alongside a hooking utility as he can cover a range of positions in both the forwards and backs.

Anyone except the coach can see Oates is the PERFECT bench utility. ANY other club would love to have him in that 17 role, even the Roosters. Such bad coaching.

If they want to say Boyd injured and not dropped to save his ego thats all good with me as long as he's not in the squad.

He came out and trained in front of the press so sadly that won't go over.

Noticing the trend here yet? Seibold just told the whole League world that Boyd and Milford are protected species simply because of how much money they are on. If Bird was fit and playing like garbage, he would be in the same basket.

This club is far more interested in protecting its face than it is winning games.

RTS named for the Warriors.

He must be fighting the charge.

Warriors have every excuse in the world to lose this game, but I can't see how we win.

If we somehow win, who ever is MoM should be captain.
