POST GAME [Round 9, 2022] Rabbitohs vs Broncos

Great win, boys.

Maybe the best part about this little streak - with each win, there's less and less criticism* in these post-game threads, and far less doom and gloom around the place in general, making BHQa much more tolerable place to be.

*excluding criticisms of Gamble's haircut, which is always justified.
It’s not just gamble. Robati, palasia and Kobe all have the same hair cuts. It might become our trademark.

Damn, we've actually got a squad of players who are taking pride in their defensive work. I can't believe it.

I actually thought we played pretty average tonight with ball in hand, so many soft errors and poor decisions. But wow, that defensive resolve was outstanding. Kobe's hit on Murray really set the tone, we looked at risk of being blown apart there.

3 - Reynolds. He might just get 3 every week at this rate, he's in career best form, unreal.

2 - Carrigan. What the hell did they do to his MCL? Some of the hardest running and most intent I've ever seen from him. Can we get this version every week please?

1 - Oates/Cobbo. Can't split them, both keep coming up with huge plays week after week, and most importantly are starting to limit the errors.

We missed Capewell's defence a couple of times on the edge but at the same time, Tesi Robati had a blinder.

I'm really not sure what to think about Payne Haas. Obviously he racks up the massive numbers, but we look more aggressive with Flegler and Carrigan pushing offloads, running angles, ruffling feathers and being generally less predictable. You know with Payne, he's just going to charge forward with the pill under his wing, and he doesn't seem to cut anyone in half or get under their skin. He just has that massive motor that never stops running.

I'm sure Payne returning won't hurt, but I don't think we miss him.
In the early exchanges tonight we were struggling a bit with meterage and losing the field position battle.

We were having to get it out to the edges for some half breaks, but eventually we got on top... it becomes risky having to play that style vs having middles just rolling them through the middle.

Haas has shown an increased intent to offload this year... I think he'll get there as the team's confidence grows, and I think his ball playing is coming along really well.

Reynolds has the shape ready for him out the back and it is a real surprise to the defence when he does pass it because they are so used to him tucking it under the wing. There will be a point where the defence will have to respect the pass and at that point Payne will have less defensive pressure on him.

Already this year Payne has been making line breaks off nothing... so it's not like he is only a battering ram.

The thing what is really missing at the moment is the dummy half being able to utilise him when we're 5m out. It's something storm have perfected, but we struggle generating the quick ptb's and running the lines correctly... I think having Paix there will improve that, because he is always keen to have a crack when we get close to the line.

Also if Haas can find intensity and aggression in his game... he'd be near unstoppable.

Without haas we’re offloading and getting quick play the balls. If he can join the party and get to ground quicker we’re gonna trouble a lot of teams this year.
I think the amazing thing was just how good carrigan was, first game back from injury. That flick offload wax fantastic and he just kept going.
Im tipping him for the maroons now.

It’s how the best teams operate. If one or two guys are out, the next two in line step in and provide the same output. Do we dare to dream yet?

I was just watching some Johns post match interview with Oates and I was very happy to hear him say they would be a little disappointed with parts of the performance as you mentioned.

Its so refreshing to hear that stuff from the players despite a 20 point away win over a more favoured team.

Its a long way removed from just being all smiles coz we beat the dogs but still played like shit.

On another note, I don't think I've seen more forward passes in a game in my life. Souths must have gotten away with 15 forward passes just in the first half alone. Fucking refs eyes are painted on.Mind you, he got our forward pass no worries. Fucking fool.
Which wasn't forward anyway... and took away a try

Bloke posted the rule herbie supposedly broke.....

"If the player marking the tackled player at the play-the-ball dives behind the tackled player in order to drop on the ball as it is heeled, he is guilty of a voluntary tackle and should be penalised. If there is no acting half back it is permissible for a player to dive behind the tackled player and drop on the ball after it has been heeled provided that, unless tackled, he immediately regains his feet"

Ummmm.... if souffs won tonight, it'd be 95% due to Atkins, some shocking decisions that all went souffs way

So it shouldn't have been a penalty, because Herbie was immediately tackled after diving on the ball.
