They managed to beat the Storm earlier this year. They look a lot more resilient and I don't think they have hit their best form. Be interesting to see how they go against the panthers.
Thinking on it I think they can beat the panthers.
Panthers look to be a one trick pony (their left side)... and then have to rely HEAVILY on Cleary.
If they're having a shit set Cleary can kick it from his own 30m to the opposition's 20m on the full... he can create instant field position, which is everything in this current version of the game. Tonight he doubles back to put a kick in behind for a try... he's just a very good halfback.
Moses has a big kicking game as well, but I'm not sure he's as smart as Cleary.
To me Parra play a game closer to the storm and rooster's up tempo style of play than what the panthers have shown... I think if the panthers are confronted with a fast moving defensive line and Cleary is pressured then they may not have a next gear to go to.
They don't have to face that very often at the moment because 75% of the comp is shit... and looking at their draw they won't be playing anyone that can compete with them for awhile:
- Titans (no defence... will get smashed even thought it's on the coast)
- Rabbits (no defence.. Latrell will be back so maybe a 30-20 scoreline)
- Dogs (Saturday afternoon game in penrith.. they will put a 100 on them)
- Tigers (origin affected game so they might avoid back to back 100's)
- Sharks (look to be falling in a heap... 100's back on the cards)
- Rooster (would be interesting at full strength... will be interesting to see who the rorters have left at this point... panthers should win in a tight one... only because roosters have no one left to score points for them)
- Eels (finally an interesting game... however it is at penrith. so the home crowd could get them home. If this game was a Sunday afternoon game at Bankwest... I think Parra could very well get them)
then they have
- Warriors in NZ (should win that, but will be interesting to see how warriors are going at this point)
- Broncos in Penrith (away game for us so we're fucked)
- Storm in Melbourne (unless there are mass injuries to storm or a huge reversal in form, I would expect the storm to put a clinic on the panthers)
Reasonably tough run home from that point for the panthers (roosters, dragons away, rabbits, tigers and then eels at Bankwest before the finals)
