Round 9 Discussion

I hate listening to these dumb panthers players talk and the stupid questions the media keep asking them that are never actually answered because the dumb pricks can’t string together a sentence and have been trained to repeat the same answer over and over.

Media- “So what did you have for dinner”
Panthers player- “it all just comes back to this team and having fun and full credit to the boys and playing with them is so much fun”

Robinson is furious with the refs. I quote "it's incompetent".

Won't take it further, how does it take 20 minutes to be put on report, they don't need him to review it. They need to ask themselves what happened, it's pretty poor.

"Incident is unacceptable from the bunker and the referees "

Unleashing on the refs

The injury to Mahoney curbed the Eels attack but even so once Opacic crossed over early in the second half it was basically all over. The Eels controlled possession wonderfully and consistently out performed the Roosters in the arm wrestle. If they can find some direction with their attacking opportunities they could go all the way.

Sydney were gallant but everytime they gave themselves half an opportunity they'd spoil the play. The moment for me was not long after the Ikuvalu try in the second half where they traded sets with the Eels only for Butcher to spill an easy one. It's just a feature of the Roosters game at the moment where they turn too much ball over inside their own half.

A fairly comprehensive 13 point win to the Eels, not the perfect performance but you'll take that over any Roosters outfit at this stage.
Can they find that much direction to beat Panthers or the Storm though?

Brown looks less involved this year, but I guess the ball is still just following wherever Gutho goes... eels attack is reasonably predictable. Gutho likes the left, eels do a sweep play to the left for tries.

What is really setting them apart is Mahoney becoming a gun hooker out of nowhere and Paulo standing in tackles and creating second phase (at least in the early part of the year). Without that they are basically a sweep to the left team.

I think Cleary's kicking game is too much for eels... although they may have more fire power than them. Who are also predictable with them favouring the left side.

Storm are the serious force at the moment... early on I thought their style of play was too fast and was wearing themselves down, but it seems like they now have game fitness and can keep up their intensity for basically the whole game.

You only have to look at what the storm did in the first half of round 1 when everyone was like "well storm is winning the comp this year"... except now they can do it for 80mins. Who is seriously going to be able to beat them this year??

Roosters play a similar style, but they've all but run out of troops... Panthers don't play with the same intensity, maybe they can turn it on out of nowhere, but at the moment they just cruise through games.

Seems like the only way the storm will lose is if they burn themselves out from playing at 150% every game.

The ch 9 commentary team were scathing of the ref and the bunker for missing Brown’s knees into Hutchison. Galen “everyone in the ground saw it how did they miss it?”

Dearden gets his head near taken off- oh look over there a squirrel.

I'm not entirely sure why he's upset with the interchange scenario. Either way, Hutchinson was no longer going to take part so what does finding out that it was a free interchange after the fact change anything? Yes, it would have been nice to have clarification ASAP but really what was it going to change?

They managed to beat the Storm earlier this year. They look a lot more resilient and I don't think they have hit their best form. Be interesting to see how they go against the panthers.

Didn’t it then give them access to the 18th man because it was foul play and cited by the ref? That’s provided it was ruled and the player was binned at the time. I’m not sure but it may be that there has to have been a sin bin as well.

That would make sense but he didn't say that. He was upset that he was only told after half-time it was on report which shouldn't matter.

Thinking on it I think they can beat the panthers.

Panthers look to be a one trick pony (their left side)... and then have to rely HEAVILY on Cleary.

If they're having a shit set Cleary can kick it from his own 30m to the opposition's 20m on the full... he can create instant field position, which is everything in this current version of the game. Tonight he doubles back to put a kick in behind for a try... he's just a very good halfback.

Moses has a big kicking game as well, but I'm not sure he's as smart as Cleary.

To me Parra play a game closer to the storm and rooster's up tempo style of play than what the panthers have shown... I think if the panthers are confronted with a fast moving defensive line and Cleary is pressured then they may not have a next gear to go to.

They don't have to face that very often at the moment because 75% of the comp is shit... and looking at their draw they won't be playing anyone that can compete with them for awhile:

- Titans (no defence... will get smashed even thought it's on the coast)
- Rabbits (no defence.. Latrell will be back so maybe a 30-20 scoreline)
- Dogs (Saturday afternoon game in penrith.. they will put a 100 on them)
- Tigers (origin affected game so they might avoid back to back 100's)
- Sharks (look to be falling in a heap... 100's back on the cards)
- Rooster (would be interesting at full strength... will be interesting to see who the rorters have left at this point... panthers should win in a tight one... only because roosters have no one left to score points for them)
- Eels (finally an interesting game... however it is at penrith. so the home crowd could get them home. If this game was a Sunday afternoon game at Bankwest... I think Parra could very well get them)

then they have
- Warriors in NZ (should win that, but will be interesting to see how warriors are going at this point)
- Broncos in Penrith (away game for us so we're fucked)
- Storm in Melbourne (unless there are mass injuries to storm or a huge reversal in form, I would expect the storm to put a clinic on the panthers)

Reasonably tough run home from that point for the panthers (roosters, dragons away, rabbits, tigers and then eels at Bankwest before the finals)

Has to be a sin bin or send off as well

With all these injuries, are the Roosters finally on level available salary cap field with the rest of the teams?

Until they manage to find some fringe NRL players that are disgruntled at their current club and looking for an opportunity to play elsewhere for minimum wage. Like TPJ, Munster, and the entire 2004 Bulldogs Premiership team.

Bunker official Steve Chiddy has been stood down from the rest of round nine due to the Hutchinson incident.

Other NRL coaches would get hit with a 10k fine for saying what Robinson says ... Robinson gets someone sacked (and probably an apology from the NRL). certainly no one would be dropped due to performance until the following week

EDIT:

Annersley says:

"Referees coach Jared Maxwell and I spoke at length immediately following the game last night," Annesley said.

"While we cannot comment about specific incidents which may be subject to the match review process, more generally, Jared and I were extremely unhappy about a number of decisions which occurred throughout the game. As a result, the bunker officials involved, who were due to officiate again tonight, have been replaced.

"They will not officiate again in Round Nine.

"We expect a high standard of performance from all of our match officials, and they are accountable for their performances just like everyone else in the game. The performance last night did not meet our expectations."

'WHile we can't go into specifics, lets just say the Roosters were disadvantaged here and well, we can't have that, so we've made changes. Parramatta's no try obstruction you ask? Oh that benefitted the Roosters so we are all good with that.'

i guess its more the fact that dearden didn't stay stay down and pick up bad injuries, but there is clear bias lol
