Round 9 - Eels vs. Broncos - Pre-Match Discussion

Prince has done good work over the last 3 games. Granted, his defence is suss, but I'm willing to give him a few more games yet before calling for his demotion

Sing kum-bye-ya.

I don't have a problem with constructive criticism, when the focus of it becomes nit-picks or it's just an overly-negative shallow rant then there isn't a discussion to be had.

I still want Prince dropped. :glare:

Hodges & McGuire should be back next week, those are two big positive changes right there. Maranta is close to a demotion but I don't really know if we have anybody who can come in for him just yet. Berryman is a better finisher but looks a little on the small side, plus his work at the back concerns me while Kemp hasn't played a lot of consistent football this year. I don't rate Kahu as a winger either.

Berryman is out injured and Kemp is playing very average tonight.

Well there you go.

Appreciate the info 1910.

Jeba as the resident Redcliffe expert what are your thoughts on Berryman, Kemp & Whitchurch? Are they ready for first grade or should Hook hold off until Origin?

The Eels lost 14-10 to the Cowboys. Toutai let the ball drop out of his fingers over the line; a better finisher would have scored and at least sent the game into golden-point.

The Cowboys weren't playing great, but only conceding 3 tries is a huge improvement for Parramatta. Tim Mannah and Fuifui were strong and their backs keep showing promise.

With a similar performance to that, the Eels have the potential to give us a fright.

Also, does anyone remember what happened the last time we played them? They smashed us 44-22 at Suncorp, that's what. That's what happens when Parra's potential turns to reality for 80 minutes. So basically, the message is DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THEM!

Let's think of a positive memory of Broncos-Eels clashes:

I remember that 22-42 flogging, worst game of the season, felt disgraced to be flogged by a team steered around by Chris Sandow and Ben Roberts.

I was at that game. I saw Kemp score about 10 metres from my seat. Still one of the greatest Broncos games and NRL games ever.

We were blessed that year with some great finishes, I always felt comfortable knowing that if we were down we would find a way to come back.

You would almost expect the miracle play to not only happen but work.

I remember going down to the Titans game the week before when our attack just disintegrated and thinking we were in trouble that week.

What a disgrace that game was

Can't say that any of them are standing out that much that they should be rushed into the Broncos side immediately.

Berryman - probably best of the 3 but hasn't yet reached the heights he did last season. Plus he won't be here beyond 2013 so I doubt we will see him in Broncos colours.

Whitchurch - seems to have lost a bit of confidence after the worst game of his career in the Grand Final last year. Needs to find it again before he is considered. I am sure he will.

Kemp - going OK but injuries and illness have been a disruption and he is not playing like the saviour many here believe he is.

I was there ooh the humanity.

Do you think Whitchurch would be better off playing in the backrow for his future development? Also where is Berryman off to?? Would like to see him get a shot for Maranta.

LMAO at the start of this thread. Last time I checked the stats Glenn had missed 5 tackles and Gillett 4 against the Rabbitohs. Either they're fatigued playing the 80 or they need rockets. At least they won't go in to this game banking on a win. Griffin will hurt them at training in preparation.

Alex Glenn has so far been flying under the radar when it comes to BHQ's scathing critical analysis......

He's missed 22 odd tackles and only made one line break

His involvement is still good.....but seems to be just dissolving into the games without any real impact.

I think he's been disappointing, thus far.

Yeah, agreed. I think there's a big difference in how he has been used this year though. Last year, instead of just passing to Hoffman, Norman threw passes to Glenn when on the attack, and he was aiming at holes and hitting them. This year, with Norman out wide at fullback, he seems to demand the ball pretty much all the time, so on the attack Glenn is mostly just a decoy runner. They mostly just use him to work the ball out of our own end. I'd like to see more variety, like Wallace hitting Glenn on the run, or putting in a kick behind the defensive line instead of always passing to Norman. The opposition is starting to shut Norman down pretty well.

glenn has been very average this year. i expected him to be a stand out at the start of the season

We have played some great football against the best teams.

For example: I have seen Glenn and Gillett used to great effect in excellent set plays. Both have scored great tries on the back of clever work by the halves and Norman coming up into the line.

Trouble is, it happens once a blue moon. We have the plays. We have shown them to good effect against the best.

The real issue is a complete lack of consistency and discipline which I believe in large part is due to a significant lack of leadership on the field, and a complete reluctance to do anything about it off the field

The best way of putting it is this. We have used Prince > Gillett to score a great try. We have used Glenn out wide ditto. Both moves should be used in EVERY game.

As I said, who out there is calling the plays? Looks to me like we play ad hoc football. We have winning moves but don't put them on.

Why?

Because Peter Wallace couldn't organise a **** in a brothel .........

just sayin'
