In this instance. Who knows how many other bets this "syndicate" put on and won.

A $4K fine and potential lost earnings of a fringe first grader is nothing compared to what they could win from illegal betting. It's hardly a deterent.

Most fringe first graders could earn more going and working in the mines if they couldn't play NRL anymore.

The point is, the money that these cheats stand to make from illegal betting far, FAR, outweighs a pathetic, appalling, 4k fine and a shiveringly scary good behaviour bond.

All that pathetic "punishment" has done is encourage more fringe first graders to try out illegal betting because even if they do get caught, they'll cop a 4k fine, big ####ing deal.

Tandy's biggest mistake was, where the penalty was given. It was too close to the posts.

IMO: Tandy isn't the only one to do this. (I don't mean just in that game)

BTW, getting away with this sort of thing isn't as easy as it sounds. Betting activity is monitored so heavily these days and a plunge such as this would've raised a few eye brows before the game even started.

And it's not just a $4000 fine. He will never play NRL again, his reputation now shattered, basically all his ambitions for a career in professional sport, in any capacity, now gone.

Exactly. $4000 isn't that much in the grand scheme of things but he'll be flat out playing reserve grade in South Australia let alone NRL again, and he'll never get a visa to play overseas.
