Salary cap cheating.

Sounds like a disgruntled Eels fan trying to pass the blame.

We need it gone more than we need it. All it's there to do is protect those terribly run clubs who can't afford to compete with the clubs who look after their financial interests.

Isn't the NBA cap around $70 Million? And what's ours? Pathetic really.

Why should the good teams have to be disadvantaged because the NRL don't have the balls to bring in rules where they can legally remove teams who can't stay afloat or don't have enough money to compete. The NRL isn't a charity.

I don't disagree but I think you'll find the NRL as a 4 team comp won't be much chop.

That's when Darwinism comes in to play. The least viable clubs whither and die, the remaining clubs in the area get access to freed-up 3rd party sponsors.

So when they say "one-time" former Origin star do they mean he only played Origin once? I can't see anyone who only had one Origin appearance attracting an extra 10,000 per game. Or is it 10,000 extra total?

So we've got a 10 team competition just like the A League.

The salary cap is key. Sure the broncos would be one of the powerhouse clubs without a cap, but the unpredictability of the competition is one of the things that makes it great. I've never watched a game of soccer in my life, but I don't understand at all how the EPL is popular. 99.99999% of the time you know which couple of teams will win the comp - those that can afford to spend the most players! How is that entertaining?

I for one wouldn't have been as excited about making the GF last year if it had of been our 4th in the last 5 years or something stupid... And handing out an absolute towelling like we did against the Knights was so much sweater considering all the hard-fought games we have won on defence. The close victories are much better entertainment week in week out - the closer the comp the better I say.

As for weeding out the Sydney clubs that'd be a bloody miracle. Imagine how great our game could be if someone at NRL HQ had the goolies to cut the number of clubs in Sydney in half, capitalise on the opportunity to grow the game in Brisbane, NZ or Perth and fucking internationally! **** it gets the blood boiling sometimes.

If you're happy for teams to be restricted, then fine, sit back and not bring it up.

But you put business men in all of the clubs, and most would do better. Most would also say the market is over saturated in Sydney. Sydney + Ex footballers and old footy fans = Fucked clubs.

Goolies!

The cap is definitely better and if "the smart clubs do it" then that says to me that MOST do it. Reminds me of the Asterix and Obelix at the Olympics story where everyone takes the potion and the race run is still fairly even. Just like body building and roids. If someone is willing to chip in $X and the player is willing to take it then let them. Keep it illegal to the game with strict prosecution and then it is a risk for those that do it. The comp is still pretty level and Parra look like HUGE chumps for rorting and still being a really bad team during that time AND getting caught. If the Broncos want to risk that then they will risk getting caught and losing supporters because of it. They aren't THAT much better than the rest of the competition.

In fact, I would actually hate for them to be caught using steroids or peptides (Paul Gallen still playing WTF?) far more than getting caught cheating the cap. This is because I want to see athletes succeed based on their own merits and I don't care how much they get paid (within reason). If I played professional sport I would much rather have achieved it with my own skill and hard work than through performance enhancers because then it isn't me winning it, it's the PED. It is the same way that I see winning a game fairly within the rules of the game. No diving (Lyon, Thurston, Reed), no running people of the kick chase (Lyon et al.), no tripping (Reynolds etc.), no cheap shots (too many to name), no whinging to the ref (Gallen, Thurston), no scumbags outside the club (too many to name including Broncos). If you can come off the field and can honestly say that was the best I can give and I did it fairly then that is footy. Some days you will play like carp but you can still play fair.

If you cheat the cap you risk getting caught and I think harsh penalties should dissuade this and make it an honest game. The players definitely know what is going on and if they get caught rorting then they need a ban and need to pay it back and invest it into the development of NRL. I think the system that is in place lends itself to the ol' brown paper bag job but so is any other system but jees removal of the cap is a terrible idea. The comp remains fair enough and all that needs to be done is really make salary cap investigations more thorough. /RANT

The Mole said this monday night. Now Sydney paper.
My bet would be Cronulla.

Can't wait to hear what Dean Ritchie has to say. Then no doubt Roy Masters will write some bullshit about how the Broncos are involved because Parramatta is in Sydney, Sydney has a suburb called Manly, there's a Manly in Brisbane. Boom! Logic..

Yep of course..well one club is about to have a big fire sale by the sounds of this. Parra is only 570k over.
