Season 2016 is around the corner...It's time to heal

Eh, I'm over it. It hurt the first few days but that's sport. I also figure that our perfect run couldn't go on forever and the next time we lose a GF (which is hopefully a long time away), it won't hurt as much now that the record has been broken.

Life goes on, it makes 2016 exciting.

What do I want from the guys this year. Much the same, except I want more ruthlessness - I don't want to see them shut down when the game is won, I want the foot on the throat not only firmly pushed down but twisted aswell.

Man JT is a true champion. .

The way he seeked out hunt to console and congratulate him is just inspiring.

He's by far the greatest player to have ever played the game

Perhaps it is a matter of how we interpret words, but I just can't agree with this statement

To say someone is "by far the greatest" means that nobody is even close to his level, he is first and daylight is second

At least that is how I understand such language

Now Thurston is a wonderful footballer, of that there is no doubt, and he may possibly even be the greatest

But is he definitely the greatest by such a "far" margin that nobody is even close to him?

No way, just no way

If JT is in fact the best footballer ever, there are players very close to him, there is no way it's JT followed by daylight

I haven't watched the footage and don't intend to any time soon but keep in mind this great sportsmanship by consoling Hunt was done after he won.He is definitely one of the greats but Thurston has also shown he is not the best loser going around.

I am just glad non of us are players. some of the comments are just piss weak in their mentality. Last year we where not ment to be top four let alone make the GF. Our guys played poor for 20 mins and lost the game. thats footy, you live and learn from mistakes. Infact its the only whay to learn. You lose to know how to win, like any sport its how you come back from it that defines you. The guys may not be talking about it but they all know what they learnt and their all hungry you can be sure of that. We will see what our guys are made from this year in the way they either prove a point or not.

Last year, according to other RL fans, we were meant to miss the eight, and I'm sure nobody here picked us making it as far as we did. On the flipside, the Cows had been building up to that match for the past 5-10 years: if they didn't win it last year they'd never, ever win a GF. That's their moment of solitary moment of glory - they have two years max to repeat it before they go on a long drought post-JT's retirement.

EDIT: I rate JT as a player, and more so as a human being, but he's not in the same class as Smith, Johns (as much as it sickens me to admit), or Locky. The aforementioned were/are unflappable under pressure, and pulled off clutch performances despite the odds or occasion. JT goes missing or overplays his hand more often than people care to admit in rep or big game, the 2014 SOO series being the most glaring (despite DCE costing us the series by playing injured in Origin two, JT was borderline useless in that game).

From memory, wasn't Thurston struggling with a flu or something?

I get what you mean though, but I'm still happy to put him up on the same level as those mentioned.

nope, not watching . It's still too soon.
So right...the gf sits on my Foxtel iq ....and still I haven't watched it nor will I until we hoist the trophy again. The cowpats didn't win it, we lost it......yeah, I know they got the trophy but.......

Yellow Button.

I was satisfied, overjoyed, with our season when we smashed the Roosters to make it to the GF. At that point we'd proven ourselves. A GF win would just be cream. But to be one tackle away, **** that. I would have been "satisfied" to lose by 12 points. But not like that. Never forget.

Yeah, the way we lost fucking sucked. And the worst is it has changed me forever as a Broncos fan..I'm just not as excited about this season as previous years - a bit more gun shy.

I mean, what does 26 rounds, 3 semi finals and 79:59 of a GF worth of hoped mean when it can all be stripped away in the championship minutes?

I console myself with the notions that the Cowboys were always due for another try (they bombed at least 3) and we never looked like scoring again. And the Cowboys being the Cowboys, they play the full 80 minutes.

We played the clock and lost. Simple as that.

The Ben Hunt dropped ball of the kick off is a non-event. The second Kyle Feldt scored it was game over. Thurston was always going to be the hero then.

We over-achieved in 2015 massively. I think we'll struggle in the early stages of 2015. But I've always thought 2016 would be our year

So you think we will go back in time and struggle however win the premiership later this year (when we have returned to the present)?

Bazinga.

Early 2016 will be a struggle.

I always thought 2015 would be a building year and 2016 a good shot.

I don't think the GF loss in 2015 weakens us for the 2016 tilt.

Can we use the time machine to go back in time and take Hunt off the field for the kick off? Or just put someone else there and move him to the other side of the field.

Someone call and ask..

I'm totally the opposite. After long years of watching largely insipid football week in and week out under Henjak and then Griffin (mostly Griffin, admittedly) my fandom developed into a general apathy and a defeatist outlook on the Broncos's chances in any given week (or season). I never gave up on them, but man was it a slog sometimes, and sticking by them felt like self inflicted punishment. These weren't the Broncos I knew, the Broncos I grew up with.

At the start of last year I was one of many who thought Bennett was the wrong choice, and one of many who didn't want Boyd back. I had fairly low expectations for 2015 - I hoped that Hunt and Milford would develop a good partnership, some of the younger guys would kick on, but figured on a mid-table finish.

What we got was simply amazing. True, the grand final may have made me feel worse than any other single sporting event in my life, and that will hurt for a long, long time. (Never forget.) But what the Broncos did in 2015 has got me super excited for 2016, and I can honestly say it's probably the most excited I have been for a league season for the better part of a decade. I can't wait for the season to start, come whatever may. After such a long time, it feels like I'm supporting the old Broncos again.

reading all this still cuts deep

that said everything except the way we lost would have lead me to think we'd have learnt more, gotten hungrier and used this pre-season to sharpen that focus and really stoke that fire to really shred other teams (we shall not mention names...)

...but a bizzare combination of factors has me worried. the team's storried GF record, the youngsters who overachieved and could be said to have little to show for it except hurt and the weight of expectation from the largest fanbase in australian sport.. any one of those things could send this team in who knows what direction. im no pro athlete any more but we are talking about human beings here... albeit with the help of what might be a god in disguise ; )
