Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold has strongly denied reports he was responsible for undermining Michael Maguire to take over the South Sydney coaching position in 2018.
Maguire was replaced by Seibold at the end of the 2017 season, with reports emerging earlier this year that Seibold was somehow involved in the departure of the former premiership winning coach.
“I was offended by that perception,” Seibold told The Sydney Morning Herald.

“To have my mum ring and ask me that question. My kids … It really hurt to have that said about me.
“Where that’s come from, I have no idea. [Souths general manager of football] Shane Richardson will tell you that’s not the case. In some ways, I’ve been an easy target over the last six months.”

Seibold believes he has been an easy target for journalists thanks to the Broncos uninspiring start to his five-year tenure at the club.

“Some people can plant stories and snidely suggest certain things about myself,” Seibold said. “I’ve spoken to Michael Maguire since he was released from the Rabbitohs. He called me on the day of my first game as head coach.
“I haven’t spoken to him recently, but I hate that a story has been planted by someone who wants to see me hurt.”

Dropped Roberts and Isaako,
Gave Kodi the tap with option of playing at 14,
Imported Segs.

Seibs and Lockyer are starting to turn the screws here. Lets see what the next 8 weeks brings from a performance standard. It will take some time for the impacts to set in properly, but its a damn sure serious way to set a standard and send a message.

As much as i have big doubts about Siebs right now, Cant fault what he is starting to do right now.

This thread has somehow not been bumped for 3 months.

There was a lot of negativity surrounding the coaches decisions and tactics last night. Just interested to see how we all feel moving forward?

You mean you're looking for disciple to beat your incessant drum?

It wasnt me being negative last night mate, it was everyone else. The drums are beating without me

I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. I understood the board not wanting to extend bennetts contract because they wanted to go a different direction.

I was excited at the beginning of the year after seeing how souths attack had improved last year, and all the positive press. It was mouth watering to think what he could do with our young forwards, knicko, milf, bird and roberts at his disposal.

But then the season came. Ok, we had a hard draw and disrupted off season but hey we will get better, but we didnt.

I understood his clear out of roberts et al. We heard about changing to "his style" of play, however i see no style at all. If we had a structure and were just fucking it up, i would get it, but there is no structure at all.

Our defence remains pitiful, goal line defence non-existent and attack a spluttering mess.

I am disappointed. We have a tradey with all the brand new shiny tools but who didnt finish his apprenticeship and doesnt know how to use them.

Wayne Bennett didn't make the finals in his first two years as coach with a side containing the likes of Greg Conescu, Greg Dowling, Michael Hancock, Chris Johns, Joe Kilroy, Allan Langer, Wally Lewis, Gene Miles, Kerrod Walters and more.

Sometimes it takes time to build a competitive side. Seibold was not brought here to tweak things.

Seibold was handed a competitive side.

Tends to happen when you keep getting injuries in key positions.

I don't think you understand what competitive is.

We turned up from time to time but not when it really mattered.

So you’re using the one finals match last year to justify your position?

We were a far better side last year than we are this year. That’s all on seibold.

A lot more than just that finals game...

A bit of trivia for you. Name me a side that's had the injury toll we've had this year, including the suspensions, and actually did well.
