NEWS Seibold tells Boyd he will play centre next season

Well I think it does matter. I'm not saying he shouldn't be able to move on I'm simply saying that I don't want a bloke with his history, captaining our side. A lot of people look up to professional athletes, the Captain of the Brisbane Broncos will garner even more admiration. I know I wouldn't want my kids looking up to a bloke who is capable of what he has shown.

If you think that action rules him out then that’s fine and say that, but whether or not they are still affected or not doesn’t matter.

Kids shouldn’t look up to any footy player.

we're not a boy scout troop ... we a footy side trying to win the premiership ... if Lodge is the best person to lead our team to reach that goal, then he should get the captaincy ...

if we just want a good guy to be captain, then we may as well just leave Boyd in that role

Seems like an odd choice for captain to me.

Did you watch the footage of his "rampage"? Nobody was hurt and the family in question got a nice, juicy payout. I'm sure they're fine.
Without making any comment on Lodge, the 1.2 million dollar damages they managed to extort from him was obscene.

Also when he was described as being “on drugs,” they didn’t mention he’d just got off a plane from Australia, and inadvertently mixed alcohol and stilnox, which he’d taken to help sleep on the flight. That on top of jet lag.

This is why you have to be extremely careful with benzies. That should’ve been the story.

I believe there was an out of court settlement. Quite possibly much lower than 1.2mil.

The Lodge thing goes both ways a bit because it wasn’t just one incident. He was a bit of gronk on several occasions in his youth. That being said I hope not too many hear live in glass houses.

I don't know, maybe I'm just super weird with this kind of thing but I expect more from a potential captain.

Foordy this was meant as a reply to you. Forgot to quote.

I did and it didn't appear to show everything that was mentioned. They might be fine.....I wouldn't know. Still don't want him as Captain.
I don't know, I think if I had kids and they were dumb enough to base their life choices off a footy player, then someone who fucked up when he was 19/20 but turned his life around, paid his dues, and stuck firm in the face of adversity to reach the top of his profession when the easy choice was to give up, that sounds exactly like who I'd want my kids to aspire to be like.

Pretty good guy in my books.

You make a good point. I think I'm just hesitant to believe the narrative. For all I know his change in character might have had more to do with self preservation than any kind of guilt he may have felt for his victims. We wouldn't be the first club to overlook a person's misdemeanors and just tell him to keep his head down in order to make use of his football ability. I mean it's possible that he doesn't even feel any guilt at all and never has. That's the thing, I don't know. What I do know is I don't want him as Captain and I'm sure there are plenty of fans who feel the same.

The same could literally be said about anyone though. Would you care if Boyd didn't feel guilty about cheating on the missus?

Yep, if you could namecheck Jesus, you'd have yourself some classic hardcore Christian porn.

Lodge as Brisbane Broncos captain? Mmm yeah, not sure about this one.

Why Lodge? Because he turned his life around? That's honestly wonderful but that doesn't necessarily mean he's a great rugby league leader on the field.

He seems hot headed. He loses his cool easily. I'm not sure the team will follow him and listen to him etc.

But in saying that, when I look at our current team, I see no true leaders. So I guess Lodge is as good a option as anyone else (except for Boyd)

Give the C to TPJ. Onfield Refs don't like disciplining captain if they can avoid. He will still get suspended by MRC for some 2020 games but might be a close game or two we win because ref wants to give our captain benefit of doubt and doesn't sin bin him for clobbering opponent in the head.

I mean I'm not saying it's not possible but maybe Macca wants to secretly kill innocent babies while they're just trying to have their next bottle of milk but he doesn't do that so he can continue to earn 500k a year playing like a tortoise with a 9 on his back.

It's possible but I can only go by what I've seen, which is Macca is a good guy and a shit player and Lodge was an absolute dumb **** who instead of ending up in jail knuckled down, worked hard, took shit contracts and re-signed for less money rather than taking the easy option of going back to Sydney once he had a foot in the NRL door. He never once denied he did the wrong thing, he made amends, he took the long road back to the NRL. I admire the guy, not because of he was but because of the steps he took to get back into the position he is in. Most people can't do that, Roberts is still a dumb **** 4-5 clubs later of being sacked.

I'm very conflicted on Lodge as captain to be honest. On one hand, he's exactly the sort of no bullshit, all worth ethic persona that we need leading this mob. On the other, it really isn't a good look, not yet anyway. He needs more time for his history to cool off. If it becomes clear that the media and our haters in general refuse to let it cool off, then we can say well **** all of you we're doing it anyway, especially if he is earning it off field and on.
