With all the talk on here ATM about why Tariq Sims stayed on the field for his hit on Hodges ... I thought i'd pose the question: How do you get sent off these days?

I don't know if anyone saw this from the Tigers vs Souths u20s finals match but he also stayed on the field and only got put on report.

Should contact to the head warrant a send off?

I don't think so...

I agree ... but a deliberate shoulder charge (which is illegal BTW) to the head of a kicker definitely should be.

and for that matter, so should shoulder charging a player who isn't expecting it (and not looking) because he got rid of the ball ages before the hit.

Pfffffft - know it all. :P

For me, that Cassell incident was an easy send off.

If I remember correctly, that wasn't an illegal shoulder charge.

NRL released a video stating that if the arm is down the side of the body and not tucked in, it's not an illegal shoulder charge.

Unless the rule is different in NYC? If it is, then it's a send off.

IMO, send offs should only be used for tripping, kicking, punching (depends on the punch), biting, eye gouging and repeat offenders (3 incidents or more).

Cassell tucks his left arm in, it's obvious from the front on.

So not only was it a shoulder charge, but it was head high and on a kicker.

If the NRL is serious about stamping it out they've got to treat it like all those offenses you just listed.

Certain spear tackles and wrestling holds need to be apart of that too.

Even if it wasn't "technically" a shoulder charge ... it was still one of the most reckless and dangerous tackles I've seen in a long time.
