Totally agree with your assessment of Maranta but u must remember that he is a fourth string winger, how many fourth positional options are excelling in the NRL, absolutely zero. We all seen him perform last year and we were all aware of his deficiencies, yet posters continue to waste space on him. What did u expect? U r right, he is not of NRL standard or anywhere even remotely close but until Kahu returns, he is our best option on that side of the field.

As for Norman, I am tired of people saying that he has a big ego and doesn't give it his all. He touches the ball at least 3 times per set, he often delivers the kick on the last tackle, he is always in a position to attack and has produced more tries than anyone else in the backline. Granted, he does make errors and maybe his vision is clouded at times but he is just a kid, we would be much worse off without him. Like I said before, he cops a bad rap because he is moving on next season, I wish he was staying as well (deep down, everyone else does as well) but he has made his decision and he will be sorely missed. Get rid of Norman and keep Hunt, another brainstorming decision made by the top brass. Please lay off the youngsters of the team, they shouldn't bear the brunt of the blame for this horrendous season.

If I came across as condescending, then I apologise profusely but I blame it on Peter Wallace, I also blame him for homelessness, the GFC and that plane crash in Frisco this morning.
First of all, congratulations on turning a negative into a positive. That last paragraph was great humor! :thumbup1:

Regarding Maranta, after re-watching the game, I am fully convinced almost any winger in the Qcup would serve us better than him. There's no way he is our best option at the moment, even with all the injuries... that's an honest appraisal!
Friday he cost us 24 points on both sides of the field, and I am taking into account the fact he also saved one with that "intercept" that led to Blair's knock on.

Re Norman, perhaps I have a different view of footy, but I cannot accept players who don't do the 1%'ers, and Norman is one of the worst at that!
For all the talent he has, and he has plenty more than Wallace, I prefer the ranga, because no matter what, he will always give 110% on the paddock.
He may be only 22, but let's not forget this is his fourth season in the NRL, where he played 62 games, most of which as a starter!

I doubt very much many people are picking on Corey because he is leaving us. I truly believe most of us are happy to see him go, and want someone else there for two reasons. The first is to get one of our guys routine in the spot, the second is because they cannot stand seeing the lazy half-arsed efforts, slack defence, slow kick returns and selfish plays he comes up with. He has set-up as many tries as he has bombed because he wants to take the chance himself (I think that is why people say he has too big an ego, besides the way he usually carries himself).
It is honestly one of the worst wastes of talent I have seen in Rugby League. FMD, can you imagine this guy playing with the heart and humility of Wallace? :scared:
He could be right up there with the likes of DCE or Cronk.

I do wish him well, but I have very strong doubts he will ever be a great player

This sums it up for me. It's all well and good to say that people don't like Norman cos he's leaving, but that wouldn't explain the scores of people wanting him gone last year when the prospect of parra hadn't even been aired.

People can judge his ego by the way he hogs the ball and goes himself far too often, after 60 odd nrl games inexperience can no longer be blamed. Also, little things like the day of a match that defined our season, at the end of a week which we are lead to believe was all about team bonding; he instgrams a pic saying "get me home". He's about himself, not the team

Ours, and Corey's biggest problem is ..... his mentor who hasn't done one single thing to evolve, develop, refine and discipline a serious talent in 2 seasons, and, as at least one has said, he is likely to turn into a top class 5/8 under a different coach who believes sparing the rod does spoil the child

Corey peaked in Round 1, 2010. That was will forever be his best game in a Broncos jersey.

He played that game like he was desperate to earn the respect of his team mates and fans.

From then on he believed the hype. He got the Courier Mail interview. He had the keys to the city for a few weeks. "I am the next big thing".

From there he went down hill, got dropped and then the club held onto him for 4 seasons on the back of 1 good game.

Now that he's signed elsewhere, the fans have no reason to believe that he's the next big thing either, we've run out of patience and want to see what the future holds.

I don't give a flying **** about his feelings or any promise Hook might have made not to drop him.

He also had some good games in the halves in 2010/11. It was only after Lockyer retired that he became hopeless. At first I thought it was just Griffin easing him into first grade, but it's been almost 2 years now.

I wouldnt bet your house that everyone wishes he was staying.

I'm glad he is going, was best decision for him and the club and wish him all the best, think i even wrote the same thing in a thread about the Eels. I look forward to seeing how he goes in the Blue and Gold, i even anticipate "some told you so" type posts by people as soon as he has a good game for the Eels but for mine he is not the player we need in the current squad.

I said last year that Norman reminded me of Sutton a bit.

Obviously a talented player, can play two positions but not master one and is lazy. Sutton hasn't gotten it together until he's 27/28 and Corey may very well be the same.

Norman has talent but talent is only part of the requirements for a first grader . He may kick on but no matter what happens he has to go away. We do need to focus on what's good for us and that is the remaining games this year and who gets a game. We need to remove the under performing players and play them in the lower grades until hunger returns. There is no point putting them in the team as we'd get the same results. Better to offer some chances to guys who never got a shot and thought their chance gone. There are plenty of guys over 25/26 who never got the chance but keep playing qcup every week. I'd be happy to experiment with them for the rest of the year. Anyone desperate because desire can overcome mediocrity, a fact Qld emphasised year in and year out in SOO.

Gun post

Hook does not seem able to crack the whip. A strong coach would have laid down the law to Norman (and a few others). Trouble is, there is no one to crack the whip at Hook.

Norman is allowed to play the game he wants to play. That is why for every try he makes he bombs at least 2 others. I somehow doubt Stuart will let that happen and yes, I believe at another club, Norman will be forced to play the game the coach wants it played, which of course again reflects on our way of playing: undisciplined, unstructured and just plain boring.

I can actually see Norman being a top level 5/8 (and as I keep saying along with a number of others, he never was or will be, a FB. For a start, he is way too slow).

Same

This is what we should do: We pick Lockyer and stand him near the corner posts. He doesn't tackle, pass or kick. He just directs the team around the park with a megaphone or something like it. That'll take care of our lack of on-field leadership.

I'm on board with this :thumbup1:

i agree with this, and this is the reason i dislike him on the footy field. talent has nothing to do with it.

Meh. Good on him.

Best for him to be pushed out the nest. He'll probably thrive again in that environment where he's forced out of his comfort zone. No doubt he has the skill.
