More than 20 years ago, but doesn't change the fact that it wasn't insulting and still wouldn't be now. Financially may not be smart but I don't think it would be insulting.
It's no different to cricket, we don't play every Test at the MCG because it is the biggest. Tasmania or Queensland still get a Test with smaller capacity.
If the CA said 'Gabba doesn't hold 100,000 you can't have it. Queenslanders would go nuts.

Not insulting, but silly.
Over 20 years ago, suburban grounds were the in thing. Now they've been rightfully (IMO) banned from hosting finals games!
Townsville does not and will not have the capacity to host an Origin game. It's as simple as that!
And if we start arguing about NQ people being able to go to a game, are we going to start planning for a game in Mt Isa, Roma, or what about those poor guys in Birdsville?

It's not accurate. Just like saying Origin is ok to be broadcast in black and white because Sports used to be.
That's not the same comparison. Old mate said 25,000 at an Origin would be insulting. I just pointed out then 16,000 must have been super insulting.
I didn't say move it or have it in NQ. It is accurate and you're wrong to say it's not. Crowd figures are there.

I don't really care, I get to go anyway. Like I said we take cricket Tests to smaller grounds and it has no impact. The only impact would be financial. If you're prepared to take the hit then move it around.

I don't see why an Origin could not be held in Townsville. Most people watch it on TV anyway.

A similar argument could be made to take it away from Suncorp and play it at the MCG every year if it's only about crowd figures.
