Whether to use I or Me in such situations is one of the most difficult for people when it comes to correct grammar. So you don't need to ask again and can keep up the excellent grammar policing, the way to decide if it should be I or me is to read the sentence as though only the one person is involved. In this particular case:
Option a "I refer to the much publicised incident involving me at Forrester's Hotel on 6 September 2009,"
Option b "I refer to the much publicised incident involving I at Forrester's Hotel on 6 September 2009,"
In this example, clearly sentence b sounds ridiculous, so "me and David" is correct.
Option a "I refer to the much publicised incident involving me at Forrester's Hotel on 6 September 2009,"
