Special props to Daniel Vidot

At a bullocking 112 kilograms, Samoan winger Daniel Vidot is the size of a small horse and since his off-season move to the Broncos he has literally embodied his new club's moniker, galloping for a very healthy 1,232 metres in the first eight rounds of the competition, the best of any winger and the fifth best in the NRL.
Only just over 200 of those metres have been made off kick returns as well, meaning the Samoans are essentially going into the game with one hell of an extra forward as Vidot happily rolls up his sleeves and gets through plenty of much-appreciated hard yakka for his side.

That is a ridiculous figure for 8 rounds.

Taking the 2nd tackle isn't as flashy as a kick return, but I just hope he continues to realise how valuable someone like him doing it is.

I just like how he is still having an impact even though he rarely gets quality ball. Now they just have to pass it to him close to the line more often or put up some high bombs.

He's been the first new recruit we've had, for quite some time, who has made an immediate impact !!

I can't recall the last time we had an offseason signing that has been as effective as Vidot has been so far.

Folau, but Vidot certainly the most value for money in a long time.

Vidot scored against Fiji :)

I've always felt Folau wasn't at his best with us. He struggled a bit in 2009, and I thought his 2010 was a little hot and cold.

2009 - 17 tries in 19 games
2010 - 17 tries in 16 games

If that's not at his best, and hot and cold, I can't even imagine him in good form.

Game, set and match.

All 2009 highlights is that a try tally can disguise some otherwise quiet games.

Folau was the master of scoring an early try (v Dragons, v Knights etc.) or late try (v Storm x 2 etc.) that in the context of the match, meant very little but years later fans mistake it as a meaningful contribution. Folau was solid that year, but a disappointment who had a penchant of sticking out on his wing when the Broncos desperately needed some help.

2010 was a different story and I thought Folau naturally played better as his familiarity with the likes of Locky developed. I will always be grateful for his performances against the Storm, Sea Eagles & Dragons where he was a key reason the Broncos won. The Dragons game especially, he was the difference that afternoon.

Just for fun.

Season 2013: Corey Oates - wing: 8 tries in 9 games (18 years old on debut - 192 cms tall, 105 kgs)

Season 2014: Daniel Vidot - wing: 2 tries in 8 games ( 188 cms tall, 105 kgs)

Vidot shines for Samoa

Vidot Shines For Samoa - Broncos

BRONCO Daniel Vidot has run riot over some of the brightest wing talent in the game as Samoa sensationally qualified for the Four Nations tournament.
The Samoans ruined Queensland Origin legend Petero Civoniceva’s shock comeback to rugby league, sinking Fiji 32-16 to qualify for the end-of-year Four Nations, where they will play Australia, New Zealand and England.
On a historic night, the Samoans overcame the 78th minute dismissal of Sam Tagataese for head-butting to claim Pacific Cup bragging rights at Penrith’s Sportingbet Stadium.
The win sealed Samoa’s maiden appearance for October’s Four Nations. In the process, they destroyed a Fijian fairy-tale involving Civoniceva, who came out of retirement following an SOS from Bati coach Rick Stone.
The Broncos and Penrith great spent the week in camp as a Fijian mentor. But when Waqa Blake was a late scratching, Civoniceva donned the No.18 jumper in his first hit out since his retirement at Redcliffe last September.
At 38 years and 11 days, Civoniceva sported a healthy thatch of grey hair and while he toiled like the warrior he is, his second-half fade out typified Fiji’s decline.
Inspired by Sims siblings Ashton and Korbin, the Bati led 16-6 after 30 minutes, only to collapse as Samoa piled on 26 points in as many minutes.
Samoa halfback Penani Manumaleali’i was the hero, scoring a hat-trick in a fitting tribute to his mother May, who tragically died in a car accident in New Zealand last year.
When Vidot crossed in the 64th minute, the Samoans were delirious as they booked Four Nations duels with Australia, England and the Kiwis.
A Fijian victory could have seen Civoniceva sensationally turn out at the Four Nations. But after 309 NRL games, 52 internationals and seven matches for Fiji, this is surely the end.
“It was great,” said the Suva-born Civoniceva. “It was unexpected ... but it’s great to be back on my home ground with these guys.”
While Manumaleali’i was dangerous, Vidot was lethal. The Samoan hulk amassed 197 metres from 18 runs, outpointing Fijian backline hulks Lote Tuqiri and Semi Radradra.

Oates made a lot out of nothing with most of his tries. Just powered through and couldn't be caught. Was good to watch. Vidot could do the same.
