Phil Rothfield is reporting that the Storms owners (Matt Tripp, Bart Campbell and Gerry Ryan) are interested in buying the Broncos, according to Rothfield they have held discussions about a possible ownership bid.

article states that the Storm owners combined wealth is close to $1 billion

the value of the Broncos in a potential sale would be around the $55 million mark

Tripp has refused to comment and there is no indication about their motives for the bid.

then goes on to talk about our approach to Bellamy and that we have poached their CEO Dave Donaghy

mentions that News Corp co-chairman remains a passionate Broncos fan

ends with some quotes from a News Corp representative

“News Corp is not open to a sale or any merger of its stake in the Broncos,” sources at the top of the company said.

“We are looking forward to seeing the team rebuild and competing aggressively next season.”

Retaliation for us trying to buy Bellamy, Donaghy etc ??

Retaliation for us trying to buy Bellamy, Donaghy etc ??

although then it will be in their best interests for us to be successful and we are a far more profitable club than the Storm are

clearly Rothfield using us to try and get clicks (it worked, lol)

the fact is that News Corp have never been interested in selling us, and sounds like they still aren't ... especially since their chairman is a passionate Broncos fan

Surely there'd be something in the by-laws of the game preventing a group from owning two teams?

Conflict of interest and all that.

the article mentions that there is nothing stopping one group owning more than 1 team ... then points out that News Corp used to own both us and the Storm

You'd think the bigger conflict of interest would the NRL themselves owning teams, and, you know, magically conjuring up a Hayne signing out of thin air to try to bring hype to a (their) club.

If true (highly debatable given the source) this is great news for us either way it pans out....
Either:
1. The storm owners pay a massive amount to buy the Broncos. A business that is far more profitable then the storm, especially when winning. They will want the same success to maximise their money obviously, they'd become priority number 1 over the storm

Or, and FAR more likely if the above is true.

2. News limited turn down a big offer for the Broncos. And if a big offer is turned down and the Broncos start to lose money due to ongoing on field failures doubled with a new team in QLD, questions will be asked from up stairs very, very quickly. There's no way it will be tolerated, and news limited may FINALLY actually flex their muscles on the clubs behalf (which we are seeing a tiny, tiny bit of now and Tripp is already shutting himself)

Considering it is already happening with Tigers and Newcastle both being owned by Wests I would say not.
