Details revealed of the secret dossier that ruined sporting giant Storm
24/4/10
By Paul Kent

THE NRL last night seized a secret dossier hidden in the home of Melbourne Storm acting chief executive Matt Hanson.

It is the smoking gun that proves the depths of Melbourne's duplicity.

The dossier contains letters of offer to three of the Storm's biggest names, with former chief executive Brian Waldron's signature guaranteeing illegal third-party agreements to all three.

A fourth player also is believed to be included in the dossier, running the illegal payments to $700,000 for this season.

Only $400,000 has been paid.

In a stunning twist, the file also reveals that at least one of the players specifically insisted that the terms of his agreement be included in the club's salary cap, indicating the players may not have been aware they were being used to deliberately cheat the cap.

While the player's request is clear, it does not appear it was included in the Storm's official audit. "He appears to be innocent," said a source, who has seen the document.

Pardon my ignorance. So now that a lot of Melbourne's sponsors have pulled out, what happens to their jersey now? Will they have just a plain purple jersey or what?

I'm sleepy, dunno if it makes sense lol.

I would assume so, unless they agreements are ended for next week.

What if Reebok or whoever make their jersey's pull out, as they are saying they might? Can they field a team without jerseys? What happens there?

Maybe the jerseys without sponsors on them you see being sold at Best and Less can now be advertised as Authentic Team Gear [icon_wink

I would say they could stil wear Reebok gear but would have to pay for them instead of being given to them FOC

Anyone seen the front of the Skins AU website? Although I support the culprits being hammered like all hell, their poster is a little tacky in my opinion.

Edit - Looks like they've changed it now.

NEWS Ltd has shelved plans to sell the Melbourne Storm and will continue propping up the ailing club in the wake of the salary cap scandal that yesterday prompted three sponsors to withdraw $2 million in backing.

While major sponsors ME Bank, HOSTPLUS and fourth tier backer Skins yesterday withdrew their support for the club, Jayco and Suzuki have taken up the slack and their names will now appear on the Storm's jersey in tomorrow night's game. Moodie admitted the scandal had the potential to destroy the club but he said News Ltd was committed to ensuring the Storm survived.

''We certainly believe in having a team in Melbourne and we will do to help them get back on track,'' NRL chief executive David Gallop said. ''Their owners [News Ltd] have indicated that they are committed to them.''

If the Storm are to survive I think they will need to get rid of the coach and a fair chunk of players. Bellmay just can't stay IMO.

A different, interesting and positive POV on what has happened

Melbourne Storm crisis will save rugby league’s soul

in time, yesterday will be remembered as the day Rugby League regained its soul.

It will be remembered as the day that David Gallop and the Board of the NRL decided they would rather fold their tent than tolerate cheating in their ranks. It’s the day when a major Australian sport said that the values on which it was founded was more important than the corporate support and the enterprises that fund it.

After a decade when fans so many times questioned the code and its values because of the indiscretions and misbehaviour of its stars, yesterday we saw good old fashioned leadership and integrity re-assert itself as the governing force of the game.

Who would have thought that Rugby League would risk its very existence in the second largest Australian city because it believes the values of fair play were more important than the very competition it runs?

Yet though the shock, there is also clarity that will ensure the day is remembered for all the right reasons. It is the clarity that saw the leaders of rugby league act in a way that truly reflected the values of sport– they reminded us to show courage, to play by the rules, to confront wrongdoing and to play by the spirit of the game. David Gallop didn’t cover it up, he didn’t try to spin, he didn’t hide behind an inquiry or taskforce, he simply fronted the public and faced the consequences.

I reckon it was Carl Williams who dobbed the Storm in to the NRL. Would make sense now why he was killed during the week. Probably got the inside word from his cousin Danny

Carl and Roberta Williams where sitting down one day during a prision visit and Roberta noticed Carl was getting on the tubby side. So she leans over and says:

"Geez Carl and exersise bike wouldn't kill ya"
