WOW, I knew they were cheats!

Can anyone actually see the Storm surviving this?

Man, i am still in shock, this is just massive.

love them or hate them, this is horrible news. could see the death of league in melbourne

thats pretty much it for both the Storm and rugby league in Melbourne. Melbourne were already being held afloat by the NRL iirc, so i have no doubt that they will not be in the NRL next year.

and before you go calling them cheats, remember, the PLAYERS did not cheat and from all reports knew nothing about this. the storm, as a team, still won all those games and were still the dominant team of the decade. nothing can change that.

personally i think this is a ridiculous punishment. yes, strip them of the points and make them unable to make the finals this year.....but to declare their previous accomplishments null and void? thats wrong.

of course i dont expect any of you to agree.

u gotta feel for the players, they are the ppl losing the most in this, and they wouldnt have had any idea

Those getting the dodgy payments could have known [icon_shru

I feel for the fans big time. Not only are they screwed this year and possibly into the future, but their decade of success is now kaput.

Not happy about this at all. I hated Melbourne, but I loved to hate them.

do they play games this yr still? if they dont, what does that mean for queensland?

**** them. Cheating *****.

It sucks for Rugby League that is for sure. I think the Storm will come back stronger provided the players who are there decide to stay.

Yeah the Bulldogs re-grouped and re-built - but big difference is they are a RL heartland club. Much harded in a non-league city like Melbourne. Sponsors, fans etc - it's going to be harded to keep them on board

That will just about kill off Rugby League I reckon.

As cheating and dishonest as it is, I can't help but feel the NRL has helped bring this on themselves.

I'm prepared to give the players the benefit of the doubt, at least until proven guilty. I suspect if anyone had an inkling it was the player managers.

I don't quite get how it all worked. They talk about 2 contracts...if the players had to sign 2 contracts then they must've been given some spin.

I guess we'll hear more over the coming days and weeks as the media picks at the carcass of rugby league in Melbourne.

You are kidding me.

Their team would've been missing a fair few key players if they hadn't cheated the cap, how can you say they still would have achieved what they did? They were able to use players they wouldn't have been able to if they followed the rules.

They're cheats. Worthy punishment.

spoken like a true storm fan.

They won the premierships because they were able to keep a super squad due to salary cap cheating! I feel for the players who get paid nothing and lose everything,.

How is it wrong if the team shouldn't have been what it was without cheating? Yes, the players had nothing to do with it but if it shouldn't have happened then I have no problem with erasing the records - happens in the US all the time

They cheated blatantly. That's pretty woeful.

the players that they had still won the premierships and minor premierships. it doesnt matter if they MIGHT NOT have been there - they were, and they won.

the premierships should stand because the players that were there won them fair and square, on the field.

I just told a Victorian non-league fan who is visiting our office today - even he is gutted
