I have a lot if respect for how tough he is and what he used to be capable of, but I thought he was one of the weaker links in the QLD side over the past few years, and was only getting picked due to the winger shortage north of the boarder.

He's no where near a Falou, or Yow Yeh.

He didn't have the skills of folau or JYY but has always been fantastic whenever he played for qld. Literally won us games on several occasions

WTF?

Tate was one of the best players for Queensland and was always doing his job and defusing difficult kicks and making great metres out of dummy half.

No disrespect to Yow Yeh, but Tate provided much better service to Queensland than he ever did.

Folau is a different animal but again, all things even, Folau didn't come back after 3 knee recos and still manage to lift and be one of the best on the field.

Tate has always lifted in Origin. Like in 2008 when Inglis destroyed Gasnier, Tate played just as well by protecting Prince (making over 40 tackles), and still adding a lot in attack by running for about 150 metres. One of the most underrated performances IMO.

Tate's been amazing as QLD'er. I think Cowboys and Warriors fans have every right to shit on Tate because as a club player I think he has been exceptionally ordinary since leaving us. However, no matter how shit his season was going or how poorly his injuries had seemingly affected him he turned into a beast when he pulled on the maroon. The jersey gave him abilities and performances he seemed incapable of giving for his club side. He's the very definition of a player lifting for his state.

Would fucking hate him as a Cowboys/Warriors fan though. Seeing him pull those Origin heroics and returning to my club to be relatively average.

That was apart of what made Tate such a good 'troll' player because even at the Broncos, he always only seem to deliver in the big matches.

Surprisingly Warriors and Cowboys fans seem to love him. Guess when they've had the centres they've had, it's easy to see why.

I knew this would get a poor reception but I did point out that Id never question his heart. To get back to the level he did after so many injuries is nothing short of inspirational.

And I also said he was a gun once. I was just saying he was a bit of a passenger the last couple origins. For one, he was really slow to get to kicks that didnt hit him on the full which lead to starting the set from a poor position (luckily most kicks came from Pearce and hit Billy on the chest each time) and he wasn't acceptional in any other aspect other than trying real real hard.

If Falou and Yowie were available, I find it hard to imagine he'd get a start.

You're probably right, passenger was the wrong term. I just feel he became average the last few series. Again, I'd never downplay his effort but I feel he was made to look better than just a hard worker in an incredible team.

Well, hey that's your opinion and you're entitled to it.

I understand that Tate wasn't flashy but that doesn't make him any less valuable. He took a lot of pressure takes in the air, made a lot of underrated tough runs through the middle to buy the Maroons momentum and in some of those games, for mine, was easily our best as he helped us win an arm wrestle over a superior forward pack.

His return game being of course the big highlight.

Forgive me but while I admire your penchant of going against the grain, I just feel this is an example of being a contrarian for the sake of being one. Don't think you intended it, but the passanger call just comes off as really disrespectful, especially at this time.

But hey I'm right with you on Folau and Yow Yeh. I miss watching both run round.

I apologise if this came across as disagreeing just for the sake of it. I did mention that I felt this was probably the wrong place for this type of discussion.

This isn't an opinion I hold strongly. I tried to word it as more of a question than a statement. I am happy to admit I haven't paid him huge amounts of attention and I'm usually pretty drunk on origin nights so I'll accept being wrong. I guess if a players main attribute is that he doesn't do much wrong, it's more noticeable when he does.

Until your last post the only answer I got was to the effect of "he has determination". You actually brought up good points.

Call it an agenda, but I'd probably go with a right fringe of Folau and Yow Yeh.

Then again I have this idea in my head that Yow Yeh only got better after 2011 which probably wouldn't have been true.
