Confirmed ACL tear.

All the best to him. He was a magnificent player for us who I was disappointed to see walk away. He has been absolutely huge when it mattered.

Fucking poor Tate. Will be interesting to see if he fights on.

This will be his 4th ACL and at his age I can't see the value for him coming back. Really sad way to go out.

Terrible news for Tatey. I cant say at his age and ACL history him coming back. Absolutely gutted for him.

What makes me disgusted is that after all this guy has given to RL he has to remember what is most likely his final moments on a footy field as cheering when the medicab came out, and booing and jeering when he walked off.

It's fucking disgraceful. My hope is that some people in that fucking mob of a crowd wake up this morning disgusted with there actions, but I highly doubt it.

What also shits me is nothing will be said about this by the commentators, because the very few QLD commentators we have toe the line and don't want to upset the NSWRL apple cart

If it's to be his final call, then so be it.

Sad to say that last night will be his final game, but he was always a wholehearted competitor who overcame some serious injuries to reach the pinnacle and play for his State/Country.

A true champion.

I think I might leave LU for a bit until this Origin fever dies down because some of the form going on over there at the moment is just....Wow.

One of the best QLD backs of all time IMO. Always lifted 100%. Injuries have already been catching up with him lately even before this one, but he was still excellent during his time last night. It's sad that we probably won't have someone with his heart playing for QLD for some time.

I can't see him coming back from this one at 32. Great player and I have always enjoyed cheering him on!
Thanks for the effort Tate. You are a champion.

I'm such a huge fan of Tate, I hope he comes back again to play, he's a legend, doesn't deserve to finish like that. He's everything I love about the QLD team, never gave less than a 100 percent.

Completely sad way to go and I hope the refs and crowd hang their heads in shame. No way a player of his calibre should go out in a disgraceful send off like that and in a game we were never allowed to win and was a pointless waste of time us playing in. I'm livid!

Definitely a sad occurrence. Tate has always been one of my favourites and I will never understand why anyone would think negatively of him. That closed fist push to Bird was a reaction to what Bird has done every time they've played. Ridiculous.

sad way for Tate to go out ... he has given his all for QLD and never let us down ...

Bad luck Tatey, you deserved a better send off. He and Hodgo have been rock solid on that right wing for years. What a great career he's had though.

As an aside, probably an opportunity to start planning for 2015 and beyond (and Mal, you should be looking to move on Hodges and Tate, probably Parker as well... Thurston, Cam Smith, Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk - all born in 1983 - are 1-2 seasons from retirement, what's the succession plan).

9. Smith (Ballin 1984, Friend - seems on the outer, McCullough)

7. Cronk (DCE)
6. Thurston (Hunt? Milford?)
5. Tate (Edrick Lee, Copley?)
4. Hodges (Neilsen, Gagai?)
3. (Chambers)
1. Slater (Inglis)

While no doubt Mal will give Hodges a shot at retribution, his goal now is using the next 1-2 series to leave the team in a better place than when he started.

Nothing will be worse if he fumbles out from 2 consecutive series and Qld has to go through 2-3 building years while NSW enjoy their prime.

These boys will get next year to redeem themselves and then there will be mass retirements. We don't need wholesale changes by we do need some fresh blood phased in, especially I'm the engine room and backs.

I think we will see a few retirements after game 3.

Unfortunately overshadowed by the even more amazing Lockyer try, this one is still an all time classic and one that started it all.
