Telstra retains Online and Naming Rights

Apple TV + Jailbroken + XBMC = best media player you can get.
You're quite possibly right.

Alternatively, you could have your PC connected to a 60" plasma via a HDMI Dolby Digital II receiver, and play whatever you want from your 8TB NAS device or from a internet stream like NFL Game Pass... :001_tt2:

I also have an android tablet with a mini HDMI out just in case...

But then I'd need a 10 metre HDMI cable.

I could use the Bluestacks program to run the android app on my computer, subscribe that way and get desktop NRL viewing :)

ive got apple tv connected to my 40" LCD via HDMI (havent got the Surround Sound hooked up, but i just need to buy an optical selector so i dont have to unplug from xbox/appletv every time), streaming all my media from my 8tb NAS and have every streaming video add-on under the sun installed in XBMC :)

only thing i still need to do is get the appletv to boot directly into XBMC and shut down when i close XBMC, then ill be in media player heaven haha.

Well they've disabled airplay mirroring in the nrl app, just get a black screen :(. Just gotta hope they make good on the initial announcement of tablet streaming too.

Is there a Jailbreak app that gets around that sort of shit?

heres hoping! gonna have to have a snoop around on the net.

having said that, the picture quality would be terrible unfortunately. mirrored a few other apps onto the tv unless they release an ipad version of the app. iphone apps stretched to the ipad screen look bad enough, but then that stretched yet again to a HDTV is just ugly to look at.

EDIT: found a few jailbreak apps that claim to be able to airplay mirror every app, even ones that block it, so will look at installing and seeing how it goes.

OK, I tried out the NRL Live App for live streaming of last night's game. Of course, they tried to delay it because I'm in QLD! Arseholes. But nice little app to fake my location worked well :-)

Stream wasn't full screen which disappointed me, and it was a bit jittery - low frame rate. Reasonably clear though and using my ADSL connection and WiFi from my phone it didn't get stuck at any stage.

I just tried watching the Highlights and 2nd half replay of the game, and they're full screen and much higher frame rate. So I'm assuming the live stream is compressed probably to ensure quick encoding/delivery and handle the load.

Overall though I probably won't retain the subscription beyond this month, and next will try Foxtel on Xbox for a month and see how it goes. I think it'll be a much nicer experience, but for 3.33 times the cost, it'd want to be :P

bugger. typical telstra though, their online videos have always been absolutely terrible quality and playback.

Yeah. Think I'll look at signing up for Foxtel on Xbox on April 27. Broncos play in Sydney that Saturday night, and then play again on Saturday May 11, then consecutive Mondays - June 3, June 10, June 17.

Broncos are then on channel 9 Sunday June 30, and then Friday nights the next 3 games, so I'll cancel by June 27 - so only 2 months of subscription.

Game times beyond that are yet to be decided.

so i jailbroke my ipad and installed the app that supposedly allows airplay for all apps, and it didnt work :(. in fact it broke airplay pretty much altogether lol.

restored to non-jailbroken since that was the only thing i wanted to jailbreak it for, and freaking itunes mustnt have backed up 99% of my apps for some reason. so then i had to go and re-download ~10gb of apps and ebooks. never had a problem with itunes before, but it let me down BIG time last night.

I tried out the Telstra app for last nights game and found it highly impressive. The picture was very clear and over 3G ran smooth with not a single problem. Being able to pay for it out of my mobile credit also means I won't miss the money for it win/win.

Yeah it's not too bad. The frame rate is a bit low, but you get used to that. The replays are much higher quality (obviously).
The only time I had trouble was during Cowboys-Bulldogs. It seemed to freeze quite a lot. So I had to exit the stream and come back in. That was particularly annoying when a player looked like they were about to score and then....freeze. LOL. I'm guessing that's just because of the quality of that game, and being Pay TV only, there was higher demand.

Being able to "trick" it into thinking I live in Sydney is handy too while daylight saving is on.

queenslander let me use his Foxtel account in Foxtel Go ipad app, so now i can watch all the games live on that :D. works very well, excellent picture quality.

Yeah, it's really good.

I was watching the game at the BBQ on it last night as I couldn't see the TV. Win.
