The Bomb

Yeah well it'd be nice if people acknowledged what I'd been saying about Wallace and not misinterpreting it as some emotional agenda against the guy, but you can only expect so much from the troglodytes on this forum, Rocky :P

Uggghh, now where did I leave my club :)

Remember years ago when Locky was our first choice kicker for penalties etc ??Back then I think I recall him hurting himself somehow and did'nt want to kick anymore. I thought at the time he did'nt want to kick because he would have to stress/stretch the problem area. Not sure though. Anyway it was years ago and he looks like he's able to fully power up the kicking leg these days. It is possible to abbreviate a sporting action and still achieve fairly good results so I'm musing he may be bringing back an old skill with these big bombs.

i know that was why he stopped goal kicking, but not sure about regular play kicking.

I remember he dropped the goal kicking clearly enough but I was wondering about the actual physical demand that the goal kick puts on the leg and the long follow through, an action required for length or height. In general play it's possible to have an abbreviated kicking action and still be accurate. I wonder too if Locky simply used the leg as an excuse to avoid what he considered a job too hard.

Lockyers a great kicker as everyone knows and he punts, drop kicks ,grubbers and chips as well as anyone so why avoid goal kicking ?? He was good at it and it's hard to imagine an injury that allows him to drop kick 50-60 on the fly and punt the same distance or more yet prevents him from taking a place kick of 30-45 metres.

I always thought it was to do with having too much pressure on him. He would rather just play the game then have that extra that he has to do. I'm sure his job on the field is already enough for him, without having to throw the goal kicking into the mix as well.

@ SSS

As fans, we have every right to talk down about players in our team. Just because I support the Broncos as a team, doesn't mean I'm going to talk all of the players up.

Take off your Broncos blinkers, and you might just see that a few players in our squad aren't as great as we would all like to see them.

Hell. If everyone was happy with a player just because of the jersey he wears, we would have a fucking woeful competition.

There will always be a point where enough is enough. I was happy for him to keep getting the job, so he could hopefully snap out of it, and start playing good football. He's had that chance, plus some. And he still hasn't shown anything.

IMO.

Locky did his ankle at the back end of one season and relinquished the duties. It's no secret he's never been a keen on the gig. Parker is probably the best goal kicker we have had for over a decade at least. His form with the boot this year has been sensational.

De Vere was a hell of a boot. the era of goal kicking wingers and centres is dying off though.

What I would love to see back is the way Lockyer used to kick for touch. When we would pick up a penalty back in the day he could basically make the ball do what he wanted, it would go straight for 40 meters then bend out.

Is it?
Gordon, Goodwin, Covell, Burt, Locke... And that's only 2/17 positions on the field but 31% of clubs have first choice goal kicking wingers. So the representation is fairly high and 3 of those 5 are still very young.

Covell doesn't kick anymore for the Sharks. Either does Locke.
Ah maybe the injury.. I thought Locke was really good??

Fair enough.
The best two kickers in the game are wingers though.

Also with the modern game positions are becoming so alike that wingers can easily play centres/fullback, backrowers playing prop or in the backline, hookers playing in the halves, etc It's not too surprising to see "less" wingers goal kicking because the athleticism in certain areas is fairly level across the board.
