Funny the difference in tactics. The Dolphins walked him through the pokies to talk to a bunch of old bar flies about fishing. No wonder no one wants to go there.

That sounds correct ... and I certainly buy that the Roosters would think they were favourites before even meeting with the player or making him an offer

So nice that the focus of incompetency is somewhere else than the Broncs these days.
I mean... 10 Mill... Wayne on your team.... this should be a compelling sell for any player you want to target, how they can lose out to the Roosters on the Smith signature is boggling. And don't go on about paper bags and golf games, firstly that is bollocks and secondly anyone can play that game well and stay legal at the same time.
Something fishy about the Phins recruiting power it would seem.

I've only seen quotes from BSmith's interview, but did he mention things along the lines of "they wont be successful straight away... it could take them 5yr or so".
If that's the kind of mindset amongst players then it might be a hard sell for guys in their prime, especially if they're being courted by legitimate premiership teams.
Players get paid so much money nowadays that their thinking might be more geared towards success and prestige rather than taking the biggest paycheck.
It might be $700k and possible premierships at the rorters vs $800k and building a club from scratch.
Especially when Uncle Nick is flogging that he can turn that $700k into investment and being set for life after footy.

If this was the guy behind the storm cheating then he shouldn't be ever allowed near the game again. If not then disregard that comment!
The Phins have a blank slate and a compelling story to sell, you could be set up for life just as well here as any other club.
What on earth is going on with their recruiting?

True.. though I think the story is still compelling to bag a marquee player. Chance to be a hero at a new club. Also for your marquee signing you aren't offering 800k v 700k you can offer 1.2M or whatever you like, it's about doing what is required within the rules
I suspect that the problem is the recruiting team just aren't that good. My guess.

I still don't think they have done too much wrong so far, but they need to start getting that core group signed up. I think you are a bit off on the Smith signing. They are an elite club and a premiership challenger. They have a lot of appeal.
