The End of Empire: The Sharp Decline of the Brisbane Broncos

You guys should form a club! [icon_lol1.

It appears that Wallace has been playing and will play tonight with a broken elbow? [icon_shru

That just validates the observation that his form has been down, knowing the reason doesn't change that fact.

Why are people still arguing whether he's in form or not. I don't think I've seen anyone say he is in perfect form.

Well then do it in relavent threads. It doesn't need to be brought up in every second thread. FFS you would think this is Michaels we are talking about the way some people go on about Wallace.

well some of us said 2 years ago that michaels should be given the ol' heave-ho, because hes never going to be any good. others defended him like he was their brother. look where we are now with michaels.

give this another 18 months and IMO some of us will be looking back and thinking 'i told you so'.

Maybe, maybe not fact is without Wallace we have struggled in the past even when he's not individually at his best.
It's not the same as Micheals firstly because Wallace isn't a massive liability with a huge X saying target me on his back and a halfback doesn't have to be as good "individually" as a centre, it's more team based.

Wallace is there to do give the dirty work so Lockyer can play at his best and judging by this year with him and how we went last year without him I think he's definitely very important to our team. I also think Wallace is the best halfback defensively in the competition and without going too much into Lockyer's defence it's hard to argue that Lockyer hasn't looked a lot better in defence since we got Wallace, that's not a coincidence for me. Lockyer enjoys playing outside Wallace it shows in his game.

It's also worth noting that since Wallace has come to us we look a much better team when it counts, 2008 and 2009 are two years where we were good in the finals, almost every year before that(bar 06) we have been making up the numbers in the finals and playing crap. Having a genuine halfback outside Lockyer has made a world of difference especially in the big games because Lockyer doesn't have do everything and that makes a massive difference which most don't notice.

I don't think he's the best ever nor do I think he is amazing but he is a very solid player who offers a lot to our team yet he is being made out like he's some reserve grade player who is lucky to have made first grade. There's only about 5 halfbacks in the competition who would do a better job for us.

Nice post bs, but if you're going to chip ppl about the releveant thread then heed your own advice or stfu

While they are still in reasonable shape at this point in time, I still think the Broncos aren't the team they once were and will be interested to see how they go in post Lockyer life

Agree the post-Lockyer era will be the test. Although, everyone said that about post-Langer too.

Unfortunately this time we don't have a new superstar in the making. Hunt, Norman, McCollough etc have all shown the occasional glimpse of brilliance but that's been very limited.

Was just going to say the same thing. Lockyer showed much more potential and was already verging on being a superstar by the time Langer retired (the first time) than any of the current up and coming players are showing at the moment.

Having a star playmaker like Lockyer in your team helps bring other stars to the club (eg If the reports are correct, Inglis). If no-one replaces Lockyer's status at the club, then it will be the first time in it's history it's had no real superstar playmaker, and will definitely detract from the aura of the club imo

I predict Hoffman will be the player that stands up when Locky Retires. We always unearth a star.

There's not reason why that can't be the case draggx. He's awesome!
