The End of Empire: The Sharp Decline of the Brisbane Broncos

sims did nothing wrong. watch the video again. he wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary. he caught the ball from dummy half and within a second he had been hit be 2 defenders, one from each side, and the second one just happened to be a doozy.

Maybe so, but the fact is the Broncos weren't "outclassed". Whether it was forced or not, it was a mistake that was the difference (in the end, there were others and missed opportunities earlier in the game that also cost the Broncos).

The better team on the night lost.

True - though if Ben Hannant didn't miss grounding the ball by 2mm then no-one would have anything against Sims

i think there was so little between the 2 teams that match that its not really possible to say the better team on the night lost.

The likes of Slater, Smith and Folau really won it for the Storm that night.

But in that moment of the game, the game was neither won or lost.. When Simms ran with the ball.. the game was ours- for the taking.

The Broncos made a lot of mistakes that night.

The Slater try really could have been avoided.

If memory serves that try would have put us up by 8 and all but wrapped it up - I could be wrong though as it's a game I have never watched again after seeing it live the first time

Personally I am more critical of the decision to pass from dummy half than Sims for dropping the ball.
In that situation I would go from half for 5 rucks, go the surrender tackle for a quick play the ball or let them hold which wouldn't happen because of the time.

Yep i couldn't watch the last 30 secs on that link

We had four blokes there, all standing and watching as Slater caught the ball and then pushed his way over the line. Terrible defending. :|

So am I gathering now given that the last 30 posts on this thread are about one game that the "sharp decline of the Brisbane Broncos" can be pin-pointed to that exact moment?

judging by the topic yes..

So its not Bruno's fault!

No that is the wonderfully entertaining BHQ going off on a tangent rearing its head again :)

Well that game did mark the departure of the greatest coach of all time...so yes :P

At the time of that loss WB was probably thinking... "thank goodness I decided to get out of here at the right time"

I was on holidays in Tassie at that time and I had to stay up until 11.00 to start watching the game, talk about gutted when it got to the end with that finish. I woke my wife up with my cursing and throwing cushions around.

I sincerely doubt that.
