Does anyone know the real Civo story and how it all went down?

I've been looking around the net but I can't find anything. A mate mentioned the other day we should never have let him go and if you think about it we could have had him in 08, 09 and 10 and he would have produced the goods. We could have kept him for another three years and he could have been the difference!

Anyway - from memory this is how it all went down:

1) WB promised a good bump in his pay when Webcke retired
2) I don't know what civo was on but he wanted 400k
3) We offered him something along the lines of 330-ish
4) He went to Penrith for 400.

Apparently civo has no beef with WB but has not spoken since to him since departure apart from Cyril's funeral and haven't spoken about the incident at all. I'm sure both parties have moved on but the whole history of events seem quizzical to me - I mean... it must have been poorly managed or handled for it to have went down like that?

Anyone know the real deal?

Type in Civo into google images and the first result is indicative of what I think of this thread.

The sixth result is far better.

well seriously - does anyone know the full story?

the story was like you said. Bennett supposedly promised him a big 'pay day' when Webcke retired, then when that happened they basically just offered him the same contract he was already on. he rightly didnt like that, and left.

His manager was stuffing the Broncos around & it seems Civo didn't have a clue on what was happening.

His manager was given a deadline for Civo to sign & that came & went & Civo had to find another club.

I heard by the time Civo realised what was happening, we had signed others & Civo had to leave.

Yep basically Kaz's story.

The original plan was to have both Clinton and Civoniceiva starting but the club was also interested in another guy called Ashton Sims so they waited and waited until they couldn't wait no more and they signed the Sims family.

does Civo have the same manager today?

No, I think he punted him fairly quickly after all this.

Just add one little thing to Kaz's story in that his manager never actually TOLD Civo what the Broncos offer was, but just rejected it outright. By the time Civo found out he told them he would sign for that but the offer was off the table, they had come to terms with Sims and they no longer had that amount left in the cap so he had to move on.

WOW, how sad is that [icon_frown
So dickhead manager stuffed the club and Civo.... I just thought Civo was expecting higher pay didn't get it so he left, this makes more sense.

He'll be back next year just wish he was back THIS year he did have the option in his contract such a champ and just his presence at the club will be a huge boost.
