Normally I roll my eyes at when people flip their lids over Hadley or Gilbert like there was ever a chance of Vossy filling in but jesus he was terrible calling the Cowboys/Broncos.

That was one of the best games of the season with plenty of high points from both teams but you'd hardly know it with Tim calling. It was clear he'd done little research and was out of his depth. I don't think I've heard an NRL game with so much dead air and he really didn't do anything to add to it.

In fact, his go to was to talk up Lachlan Coote. You'd swear Coote was the second coming of Churchill after this game and while he certainly played well, it was no where near the level made out by Gilbert. It just seemed like Tim gravitated towards him out of familiarity and simply lacked the knowledge to sell the drama or abilities of others.

9 desperately needs to get their hands on new talent. Time to raid some of the radio callers and get some new voices on the air. Because lord knows they'll never hire Vossy back.

The first Morgan try was hilarious (if you ignore the fact that he scored against us). Morgan gets up celebrating before Gilbert is even aware it's a possible try.

Yeah after Coote scored the field goal, he was praising him saying he could do it all as though he'd just played the best game of his life and was a superstar.

I've said it a few times now, but 9 are a joke with their commentary, they keep hiring ex-footy players instead of genuine professional game callers with actual talent.

I love Locky, but for god sake, what does he offer as a commentator?

I was going to start a similar thread. That commentary was woeful it was just Tim Tam blabbing on like he is in the bar and Locky/Wally were just groaning through sentanced.

Does Gilbert really need to go into so much detail over these things?

- How passionate people in North Queensland are about Rugby League and how they travel long distances to Townsville
- Ben Spina being Laurie Spina's son. I think he mentioned 5 times at least. If he mentioned it once it would be ok but hearing it non stop gets on your nerves
- The weather
- Lachlan Coote, he was great but Gilbert was talking if he is untouchable
- Cowboys 20th year celebrations
- Broncos V Cowboys rivalry

Anyone with the slightest knowledge of Rugby League knows how passionate their fanbase is and how big their rivalry with us is yet he was going on if we never knew it and he discovered it himself.

Some of those things are good if you mention it once but going overboard just drives the viewers insane. Gilbert also has very limited knowledge of Rugby League and just mentions some things to make himself sound knowledgeable about the game but on closer examination his league knowledge is very poor.

Terrible commentatar the 2nd worst behind Hadley.

I would love for them to bring back Vossy.

But after the falling out between Vossy, Hadley and Gyngell, I can't see it happening.

It's a shame, Vossy is such a great commentator. He adds that bit of excitement to the game and he is hilarious at times.

I wouldn't mind if they got the commentator from Triple M. He is okay. But there really isn't much talent out there.

I think Locky was brought in for his footy brain, but he really doesn't show it much..

He seems to have a lot of trouble speaking clearly. I've noticed a few times where he has stopped mid-sentence and just mumbled the rest of his words.. Like he lost track of what he was going to say.

Lockyer is just really there to appeal to the Queensland market if you ask me.

Well it's not working, I want genuine professional commentators, not ex-footy players who are only in the role because of their on-field talents.

He could have at least been balanced and told us five times that Maranta is Plowman's son!

Maybe Gilbert doesn't know this fact.

I must be getting old, all the commentators are pissing me off. Or my happy pills aren't working. haha

Over Rab & Gus fighting all the time. Sick of seeing Fittler on the sideline. Sick of Hadley full stop.

Cowboys fans were going off on Twitter about Tim Gilberts bias towards the Broncos and that he never spoke about the Cowboys. Cowboys fans are delusional.

**** you and your negativity lol. Tbh, I think they could get him back, but it will cost a pretty penny. IMO, it would be worth it.

I disagree with you on the raiding the radio callers....they did that and ended up with Hadley (and subsequently lost Voss)....it just doesn't seem to translate well. The team they have right now is packed full of League knowledge but they just seem to be more interested in trying to be funny.

Vossy is clearly the best caller in the game but 9 are petty as anything and it's going to take a long time before they bring him back.

Look at how long it took them to bring Hadley back and the lengths they went to basically erase him from history for awhile. They released a best of the Sydney Footy Show a decade back and basically cut Ray off even though he was a major panelist for years and was apart of a lot of their most notable segments.

Radio journalism is essentially the minors for broadcast journalism. Not everybody can get a television gig and you'll find the likes of Vossy got their start on radio. There would definitely be a teething process but I don't think they'd end up like Hadley. With Ray I think it's a case of 'can't teach an old dog new tricks'. Hadley is too set in his ways where as I believe others out there would be fine.

Heck, it isn't like Sterlo or Joey are above radio commentary either.

The problem with radio callers is that they need to know how to change their style if they commentate on TV. On the radio you need to be flat out the entire game and rapid with words as it's like you're commentating whats happening to blind people when on TV you can relax and don't need to go flat out.

They've got to start somewhere.

They released a best of the Sydney Footy Show a decade back.

That would have taken about 1 minute to watch.

They axed the QLD based Footy Show & that was far superior to the Sydney one. They actually talked football on it.
