I think the backline will be how you've got it based on Madge's comments re Cobbo on the wing.

It will be interesting to see if Kobe is given the starting spot... he'd effectively be taking it from Jensen.

I think Jensen is more likely to be on the bench than BTK... and that last spot is between BTK and Gos, but maybe Gos in front based on recent comments from Patty.

The interesting aspect would be if Patty retains the 13 and Kobe back to the bench with Jensen or Willison starting at prop.

Would that mean Gos is still in contention or does Kobe become the second row cover.

Kobe starting at 13 looks to balance the bench a bit better than last year by allowing a dedicated second rower to take the 17 jersey whilst retaining size for the middle rotation

While I don't mind the idea of Cobbo on the wing, Mariner defensively at centre does not inspire confidence. Maybe a full pre-season helps in that respect. But pre-Origin Cobbo was looking elite in bath attack and defence.
I don't mind Kobe starting at 13. Realistically he'll be buggered in 20 mins and Patty will go back there.
Definitely agree we need someone on the bench to cover 2RF and centre at a pinch.

Yep I'm coming around to Kobe at 13... purely for the balance it brings the bench.

If Madge can somehow bring 2023 Kobe back... or basically just any pre-2024 Kobe... then I think he's good enough to get more minutes.... but not having him on the bench means we can have a proper second rower filling the 17 jersey and just a bigger bench in general.

The second bench just feels small.

Jenson or Willison coming off the bench compared to Kobe coming off the bench is probably just better in helping Patty or Haas hold the middle until they get their break.

Assuming Haas and Kobe are the first two subs we'd have a rotational middle of 8. Jensen 10. Willison and 13. Patty... two big middles coming on to keep the momentum meaning less pressure on Patty having to maintain the momentum until he gets a break at like the 50 minute mark.

If Jensen isn`t starting I think he struggles to make the team .
I don`t think he can lift the team as a replacement . Taupau is a better impact player and BTK may well be too .

I was singing Jensens praises a cpl of season back . He didn`t impress me last year .

Yeah I am with you. I think the question marks there though are is Taupau getting past it and conversely, is Te Kura ready? I wonder if we might see Taupau early, Jensen through the middle and Te Kura in the back end. All of this of course is dependent on injuries.

I agree with most comments - Jenson is a very consistent player, but if he is not starting, then does not provide the impact we need off the bench.

Cobbo on the wing simply because we need the bigger body on first or second return after kick.

Mariner will be a long term player, but needs to be next to someone who communicates in defence.

this year will be the year to remove a lot of the "maybe players". If they do not perform or fall back into their poor defence, it does not matter how good they "may" be, coach will not put up with mediocrity

Yeah . but I would like to see try to Selwyn run past / around people rather than his try to run straight over them move .
There are times when he has space but decides to go straight at the defender . But once he is in space he then tries to go past / around and gets pushed over the sidelines . What`s up with that ?

Once Mam is back for his massive suspension and after a few weeks in Q cup most likely, drop Paix back to Q cup. I like this idea of Mozer staying as our beach utility as he'll be familiar to it, once Mam is back.

Competition for places will ensure they keep on their toes - not too many options for 2nd row but I like that Pilar’s will need to deserve his spot

I'm not fully agreement with this but It's what I think will happen, if it was me I would put Cobbo back at Centre and keep Mariner at Wing, where I think both players have their most potential at, But I could agree it's a safe option.

I would also have Carrigan at Lock but I don't think that will matter much as I don't think his role will actually change much if at all, he will still be playing as a ball playing middle just with an 8 on his back as Kobe isn't a ball player at all, and Patty is literally the only ball playing middle we even have, though Haas has been slowly getting better at it over the last few years.

I think if Hethrington can bring his 23 form this works well for our team though as a Rotation of Jensen and Willison is a comp leading bench middle rotation imo.

Once Mam is back replace Walters with Hunt and keep Mozer on the bench and that's it.

Potentially though Willison Takes Kobe's spot if it doesn't work, also Willison is good edge cover as well, he is a big unit but he has speed and covers there well last year when he had to do it, he would easily be the bench edge option that I see.

If the Hunt/Reynolds combo is competition beating and we are top of the comp when Mam comes back bring Mam as a 17 roaming lock(I think he can handle that role well atleast for a period till be decide changes).

Wha ? I have seen Haas do that same spread move Patty does plenty of times .
