time for 2025 Teams List

judging from media reports even if not credible:

1. Walsh
2. Cobbo
3. Staggs
4. Mariner
5. Arthars
6. Hunt
7. Reynolds
8. Carrigan
9. Walters
10. Haas
11. Piakura
12. Riki
13. Hethrington

14. Mozer
15. Jensen
16. Willison
17. Te Kura

I'm not fully agreement with this but It's what I think will happen, if it was me I would put Cobbo back at Centre and keep Mariner at Wing, where I think both players have their most potential at, But I could agree it's a safe option.

I would also have Carrigan at Lock but I don't think that will matter much as I don't think his role will actually change much if at all, he will still be playing as a ball playing middle just with an 8 on his back as Kobe isn't a ball player at all, and Patty is literally the only ball playing middle we even have, though Haas has been slowly getting better at it over the last few years.

I think if Hethrington can bring his 23 form this works well for our team though as a Rotation of Jensen and Willison is a comp leading bench middle rotation imo.

Once Mam is back replace Walters with Hunt and keep Mozer on the bench and that's it.

Potentially though Willison Takes Kobe's spot if it doesn't work, also Willison is good edge cover as well, he is a big unit but he has speed and covers there well last year when he had to do it, he would easily be the bench edge option that I see.

If the Hunt/Reynolds combo is competition beating and we are top of the comp when Mam comes back bring Mam as a 17 roaming lock(I think he can handle that role well atleast for a period till be decide changes).
I too think cobbo is a better left centre than mariner, but maguire seems set on him as a winger.

if that is the case, in the interest of our left edge defence, because mariner's defensive reads and communication is so poor (which is a further issue when he is position next to mam and piakura), until he matures and isnt such q space cadet, I would consider sticking arthars at centre in defence, and then arthars still drop back for the kick (as he is safer under the high ball) and in attack.

Last year, he played centre against the tigers and was just a no frills solid centre, and the left edge just looked solid (granted it was against the tigers, but the tigers never looked likely down that edge).

That might work with Arthur’s at centre and mariner on wing, better communicator inside - and another year of experience for Mariner - I am sure Madge will keep working on communication and understanding positional play with all the backs as injuries and form may change positions during the year

I've seen enough when it comes to BTK. I want him on the bench Round 1. Firstly, if Hetherington and/or Piakura fail to kick on, who the **** else are you gonna put there? And second, he is exactly the raw size and aggression we have been lacking in the side for awhile. I couldn't care less how young he is. Get him in front of the Thorn/Petero/NAS tapes ASAP.

Still not sold on Carrigans move to the front row, but that is more because of concerns around Hetherington; We know Patty will do a job no matter where he is. Again, Madge would be showing Kobe a TONNE of faith by not only retaining him when he had one foot out the door, but has effectively given him a promotion to starting 13 after a terrible season. Madge is seeing something I'm not right now, but that is why he is coach and I'm not.

People are discussing Hooker like it's still an open question.....How? Paix just won Hooker of the Year in QCup while Walters was another one that had a terrible 2024, then made it worse by coming out and undermining the club for the sake of Dad's job. No, just no. He's out until Origin or injuries decide otherwise; and I'm pretty sure Madge knows if he selects Walters @ 14 over Mozer, he's already on the back foot with the supporters out the gate.

The Burleigh trial is one game, featuring mostly Reggies quality across the park, so it speaks nothing about team form, but if our playing style and strategies were anything to go by, you can see Madge's influence already. Yes, it was Wrestlemania 20 from us, and as much as a loath it, I am way beyond caring about being an activist against it. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

This seems likely. I just wish Riki matured. He's a big body, but he's not serious. He's still a child, and so unconfident in his abilities. He looks surprised a lot of the time when he scores a try or makes a break. He's got talent, obviously, but he doesn't back himself and drops the ball, or second guesses the play, or whatever.
Piakura too needs to find some consistency.
I hope Madge can squeeze it out of these blokes. Kevvie was great for pumping the boys up in terms of ego, but as soon as they messed up they needed their diapers changed. I thought Kevvie might have been a bit tougher on them, tbh, but now with Madge there's a good chance he can make these boys into men.

I feel like ever since we lost players like Fifita and even Pangai, we seem to have forgotton how to consistently use our edge forwards (both in defence and attack). They're not really a consistant threat to teams, and seem to just be just permanent decoys for our shifts plays.

I think Riki can be just as good as players like Kikau, Katoa, Crichton, etc. He just hasn't been taught how to or been provided with that leadership. He seems like he has the will, just not the execution or gameplan.

While I'm undoubtedly a Walters fan boy, I get that the number 9 is a tight race. However, I don't think that supporters preferences should play any part in Madges player selections, especially at the start of the year (and especially with this position). Listen to the fans, you end up sitting with them and all that.

Exactly, I don't really care who fills in the 9 spot as it'll likely only be temporary until Mam is back. I'll back Madge to make right choice.

Once Mam is back for his massive suspension and after a few weeks in Q cup most likely, drop Paix back to Q cup. I like this idea of Mozer staying as our beach utility as he'll be familiar to it, once Mam is back.

I've got Walters ahead of him on the bench and at the beach.

Wha ? I have seen Haas do that same spread move Patty does plenty of times .
For a few years now .
He has, but like 1/4th as much let's be real, most edge plays have involved Patty and not Haas as first receiver, I mentioned Haas though because he has been involved in it much more since '23 onwards, it was definitely less last year but '23 his input wasn't that far off Pattys to be fair and back then we had Palasia, so you can see how we fell last year in attack.

Depends which reports you look at because a lot of reports have:

9. Paix
11. Gosiewski
17. Piakura
I feel if that happens it might be based more on trying to offload Walters than preffering Piax, not that I think Piax doesn't have first grade potential, but he has lacked alot of game time and Walters hasn't exactly stunk up the joint when he played, he has improved as a player since Piax fell off.

If Piax can get back to '22 form I completely understand though, it would be a superb combo.

I agree on BTK - think Walters to start with for a few weeks and think Piakura would be great off the bench when he does not have to think too much and get fatigured

I wouldn't be shocked, nor worried, if Billy is in the 17 while Hunt is 6 and Mam's suspended.

But I would be both of those if he is still there when Mam comes back.

Same, mostly, I guess it also depends if the team is absolutely killing it and winning nearly all matches. Good problems to have if it eventuates that way 🙂

I'll most likely go to, what's Walters doing in Brisbane Broncos top 30.
Probably seeing out his contact which he has every right to do, but hopefully not. If he's not being used I would hope he would move on to greener pastures.

This is fun though. What's the next dead horse after Billy leaves?
