Surely everyone's seen it now. Manly lead 17-16 with 2 minutes to go, Campbell grubbers ahead, goes in to get the ball, Orford dives in, knocks Campbell out of the way then lands on the loose ball.

Tough call? Yeah. Wrong call? Technically no.

The way Cecchin has ruled it is that Orford went in with the intent of bumping Campbell off the ball, and THEN dived on it. He ruled Orford wasn't challenging for the football.

You can argue that that's wrong, but that's how he's ruled.

The more I look at it, the more I agree. Orford leads with his hip/arse/legs. You can't catch a ball with those body parts. It's only after he's bumped off Campbell that he dives on the ball.

Correct decision, and no amount of Hasler whinging will change it.

Well done sir. icon_thumbs_u

I agree with the call. From the direction Orford was coming he could have dived on the ball without even touching Campbell. I know its hard to lose a game like that but tough shit.

and after Haslers whinging session during the post match press conference he certainly has a $10k fine coming. he was just pissed off that the Sea Eagles lost again because they are shit.

I actually think the whole reffing of this game was the best I saw all weekend, Archer let the players play and the game run itself.

When Cecchin made the call he'd just seen someone try and ankle tap Campbell, then a split second later see Orford turn his back of him, as the run of play dictated in a split second it looked like Manly were trying to illegally trip Campbell, which they were and it was the correct decision. It's a shame a good Refereeing performance is being blighted by people with their own agendas. It was an excellent game of footy all around.

I've never felt happier at seeing the Titans win, seriously, that was a sweet, sweet moment.

Yep, plus as Phil Gould rightly focussed on today, Manly dominated that game physically. They made more metres every set, had no dramas making ground, dominated field position and had a fair share of possession. They shouldn't have been in the position they were with a minute to go.

That's nobody's fault but Manly's (and the Titans' plucky defence on the line). Suck shit.

Ya I agree. If Orford went for the ball first then I can understand, but he positions himself to take out Campbell's legs and then has the attempt for the ball. It is a close call.

Couldn't have happened to a more deserving team.

Or player in Matt Orford. How he won a Dally M and premiership last year still baffles me.

I think it was a decision worth making just to see Des Hasler spit the dummy again

I was sure you're allowed to jostle for the ball with your torso/shoulders. Thought it was a bad call myself...

Jostle, yes. Intentionally impede the process of a chaser, no. That's what Cecchin ruled, that Orford had intentionally taken Campbell out, not gone for or jostled for the ball. Replays back Cecchin.

you are allowed to jostle for the ball, YES, but IMO, Orford changed his line to take Campbell out of play, which you can't do

Manly want to ground the ball with their hip then they can take players out with their hip. Ha!

And that's all folks.

Right call, usual suspects whinging their ass off. I hate Hasler more than Stuart these days.

And what I'm sick of is the people (not necessarily here on BHQ) whinging about referees making decisions. FFS, last year the whinge was referees NOT making decisions and referring everything upstairs (nearly every lost ball was reviewed by the video ref to see if they could somehow manufacture a strip out of the footage).

I can forgive and in fact applaud referees for making calls on the run, as they see it. It's the idiots in the video referee box that analyse every decision to the nth degree trying to find a reason to disallow a try that get my goat.

I can't believe the media are claiming that Manly were robbed. FFS.
