OFFICIAL Tom Dearden lost to Cowboys

The Cowboys have offered Tommy Dearden a paltry three-year deal worth a mere $1 million sealed with a dubious promise to be mentored by some guy named Jonathon Thurston. According to Dobbo, that works out to be cool $1 million dollars a year, maybe more if you count it in potatoes, but you might want to double check his maths.

Thurston's single premiership pales beside Dearden's current brains trust of Langer & Walters who've each won more premierships than Dobbo can count.

Greedy Cowboys football-operations baron Michael Luck said:

“Now that we’ve got Chad, we haven’t ruled out Tom at all. We would still love to have him here and we believe they could work well together as a halves pairing. He is still coming through and learning the ropes and we think Tom can do a wonderful apprenticeship riding shotgun with Chad and then potentially take over from him and be a long-term playmaker at our club."

“It would be great news if Tom accepts our offer. Tom has shown some things we like, so we would love for him to be here. Tom grew up in Mackay, he was part of our junior academy five or six years ago and then he went to Palm Beach Currumbin (on the Gold Coast) to finish school."

“He has done a great job coming through the ranks during a trying period for the Broncos as a club. I know it’s a big decision from Tom so we will give him time and space. We know he is a wonderfully loyal kid, he has come through the system at the Broncos and if he leaves it’s a big decision for him, so we’re not putting any deadlines on him.”

Let's hear it for Townsville!

Meanwhile local legend Kevin Walters is having none of it:

“Tom is part of our system so at this stage we are not looking outside the circle. We don’t anticipate losing Tom. He has been a good player for us in our systems and he’s still learning the game but we see little bits of improvement in Tom each week and we expect that again tomorrow night from him… no problems there with Tommy."

"We have been through everything with Tommy, he has a nice clear picture in his head about his job in the side and we are confident he can do that job for us (on Friday night) and moving forward as well.”

“If you wear a seven jumper these days you are linked to the Broncos, so that part of it… we are a big club, we are a strong club. It’s great to know other players want to come and play at the Broncos, that’s what it is all about. For us, we have our structures around what we will be doing and won’t be going outside those structures.”

“Adam Reynolds is a good player and there is some interest in him, but we need to tie up Kotoni Staggs first and if and when we do that, we will look at our other scrumbase options."

Mitchell Moses, another rumoured player of interest said:

“I‘d love to stay at the Eels, that’s my main thing, I’ve made that clear to them but that’s up them now if they want to keep me or if my management will sort it all out. When a contract is ready to go my management will let me know.”

“The ultimate goal is to get a premiership. But everyone is different Everyone is in a different situation and different ages, all those types of things. The premiership pact gets tossed around every now and then but nothing in depth. The way footy is at the moment everyone looks after themselves and that‘s how it is.”

It's not like he chose the Cowboys because in reality that's all he had.

He was never going to sign here imo. He would have had an offer from us at some point, but i think he wanted to play for the Cowboys regardless.

Why do you think that exactly? Because they are such a powerhouse?

Having a look around at a club doesn’t mean he’s going to sign.

Didn’t Locky tour Essendon once?

You may be right but the key point imo is that we didn't give him an offer with 1/3 of the season gone, I think that pretty much shows how little the club cared if he left.

There would have been some kind of offer by now if they really wanted him, especially knowing that the Cowboys were going hard for his signature.

If there was an offer in place would he have stayed? Nope. IMO he knew he was going to the Cowboys before round 1 so good riddance and enjoy playing out the season in the Q Cup.

I wouldn't read too much into anything Badel writes in the Courier Fail. Half the dribble he comes out with is just fictitious click bait. What sort of pseudo journalist would sink the boot into the current wooden spoon team who are still struggling. Today he called the Broncos the laughing stock of the NRL. I'm looking forward to future articles from this hack calling every wooden spoon team from this year on as the laughing stock of the NRL. To be honest I'm hoping Badel eventually gets replaced by someone who can actually write something interesting about the game instead of the predictable opinion pieces masquerading as journalism that he comes out with at the moment.

The entitlement here is unbelievable. You get your offer when the coach thinks you have earned one. This kid and his manager can take a walk. This is the real world and just because you have been made out to be the golden boy in the media doesn't make it so. Funny how tonight on 360 the panel are all now saying that they have been told by people with knowledge in the game that Dearden is a mediocre talent and may not amount to much.

That's right the NSW run footy media are all talking up our spuds to try and sway us into paying overs and Pies and co walked into it. Looks like Kev who has been around the media traps is actually taking notes on these blokes and isn't going to be manipulated.
TBF though, I dont think Tom is making a lot of the noise. Those around him are and I suspect it's just the manager making some excuses.
He probably thought he could pit us against the cowboys and squeeze a bit more into the contract.

It's arrogant opinions like this that have caused this entire mess to begin with.

The broncos ARE a joke. We suck. I can't fault ever single player who has left or are leaving for doing so. Good call I say! Sinking ship with no fucking life boats cause those things got burnt away last year.

This entire fanbase needs to get the "we are the Broncos and we are just great" mentality out of our heads. We are at Rock fucking bottom now. And it has been a gradual decline for the last 10 years, not in the recent 3.

We can't just keep thinking we are good and expecting things to just be that way cause we always had it easy compared to every other club. We have to start actually being good again.

The club, and it's supporters are arrogant and entitled. That won't change til the place is exposed for what it is so someone - anyone who has a shred of ability to manage a situation - puts a broom through the whole bloody thing

We hope this is what Donuts will do and he’s about three days from arriving.

If he's flying up from Melbourne, it might rain...

(Thankfully he's already here)

Yeah but I don’t get this argument whenever agents do this and people say “it’s his agent talking not him”. Their agent works for them, the pay the agent. If they don’t want them to say this shit they would tell them to shut the **** up.

Spot on

The manager works for him, he can't then go on radio or to the journos and talk like that without Tom knowing. Everything the manager says has to be taken like it's coming from Tom.
