Travis Waddell signs with the Broncos for 2015

yeah a player of Barba's quality (and salary) has to be playing 80 minutes or we're just wasting him.

So you're comparing Barba to Lockyer....?

pffft....LOL.
No, I am comparing the thought process. There were quite a few people wanting to drop Locky at the time after a pretty ordinary season and a half...

No one compares to Darren Lockyer!

Is the Ashley Taylor 2015 crew the same group of guys that pumped up Granville this year and Baptiste the year before that?

Well I know I wasn't one of them ....and ftr, were they wanting Lockyer dropped or moved back to fullback?

because that's a completely different thought process.

I don't think anyone here wants to see Barba at fullback again.....ever.

Dropped all together.

I want to see how he fares under Bennett first, and see if shedding some kgs makes a difference. Goes for Vidot too btw...

I'd love to see Barba at fullback again, but only if he returns to his previous playing weight. I watched his 2012 highlights today and there's definitely more than 5kgs he's put on. He needs to lose weight again and I hope Bennett allows that to happen.

I doubt we will ever see Barba play that well again, to me it was mainly the Bulldogs coaching and structure which made him play so well.

On the main topic I don't mind the signing of Waddell, if McCullogh was to go down injured we wouldn't have a backup hooker who is a specialist. Waddell is a specialist hooker so having him for depth and coming cheap it isn't a bad pickup.

so your not of the opinion that Wayne Bennett can replicate the form he showed under Hasler

Let's just see what Bennett can do with him. Barba has always struck me as someone that needs to play under a good coach that can structure the team out and make everyone play at their best. Would love to see him play at his 2012 level in Broncos colours.

If you are talking about me then no. I believe Taylor could be the goods but maybe not until about 2017. Baptiste was a good U20s hooker and that is all and I have never pushed for Granville. I do not believe he will have a great impact as a starting hooker in the NRL

He set up plenty of tries from kick returns, there's no structure in that at all, just speed and elusiveness. His best asset was his brilliant running game but he barely has that anymore with his added weight.

The only specialist thing about Waddell is that he's especially shit.

Rather than start a new thread I thought this one would suffice.

It may have taken some time but Bennetts decision to sign Waddell looks like it has finally paid a dividend. Last nights game was very good, at least from Waddell's perspective and his good game follows on from his last game which was also very good. It seems as though Waddell suffered from the 'give a dog a bad name' syndrome as many posters on here have been scathing in their comments.

Aside from a poor opening half of football three games back Waddell has been good and by my reckoning has now put five halves of first grade standard football together. I particularly liked the McCullough like desire to put his body on the line with Waddell taking much heavier guys front on with no thought of self. Yes, he got trampled last night but it slowed down the raging rhino enough for others to wrestle him down. If anyone had watched him closely in his previous match for the Broncos they would have seen him do the exact same thing for a slightly better result.

I for one hope he keeps up the good work, proving the knockers wrong and proving WBs obvious faith in him wasn't misplaced. Nothing as inspiring as a maligned underdog overcoming the odds.

The problem with Waddell is that he has these good patches. Patches where he plays well.. And then goes to shit.

Hopefully, it doesn't happen until Macca gets back, but don't be surprised if Waddell plays like shit against the Dogs.

I haven't seen much of him. Did he play last year and was that when he had these patches you speak of ? In fact I think the recent games were the only times I've seen him play.
I answered my own question! I just went and looked up his stats but I couldn't find any for 2015 and it looks like he played 10 games for the Knights in 2014 with pretty respectable stats which of course don't tell the whole story. Have you been watching him in the ISC ?

I thought he was solid the whole game last night. Good service from dummy half and was energetic in defence. Threw his body at some monster forwards

I was really impressed with him yesterday. He did look good a few games back playing in the second row too.

He had good service, high energy, and great attitude in defence. Couldn't ask more of a backup hooker really. Hopefully for our sake, he keeps up his performances because we need him to be at his best with Macca out.

thats a bit tough, i think we need to consider that this guy hadnt played nrl for a long time so his first game a few weeks back would have been pretty nervous for him i would imagine.
i have seen him a bit at souths logan this year and his performances were really good. the more time he gets the more comfortable he will feel and if our forwards win the middle it will make his job easier as well.
