Travis Waddell signs with the Broncos for 2015

80 minute quality effort last night. Great kick pressure and stuck to everything defensively, good service and no mistakes. Cant ask for more out of your number 2 hooker. Really happy for the guy

+1 on Waddell had a good game last night and it makes me feel better knowing that we can still win a game without Macca

He certainly beats any other solution we currently have, including Moose or Knik.

I also thought he had a really good game last night. I liked the way he was bringing the forwards onto the ball at speed with his service.

I was totally against Waddell getting another game for us even though Huge pointed out he played pretty well in previous games. Boy was i wrong.Almost Broncos best Imo. Not so worried about him filling in at 9 in the future!

Did anyone else notice that although his service to the forwards was good his service to the halves on the fifth was quite poor. Likely just due to unfamiliarity. But almost every catch from the halves was juggled because the pass didn't hit the mark. This delayed their kicks put them under pressure and resulted in some ordinary kicks. Hopefully this improves next game because otherwise he was quite good. It did get better towards the end anyway.

You may be right and it has taken McCullough a long time to develop that skill so three games for Waddell is a long way short of the number to get that right. Whatever happens with Waddell I am hoping he can be called a real contributor and a reliable back up. If he does go better he may go the way of Granville. Other clubs certainly watch and swoop when they can. Now Waddell must back it up, I think he can but time will tell.

The problem with Waddell is that he has these good patches. Patches where he plays well.. And then goes to shit.

Hopefully, it doesn't happen until Macca gets back, but don't be surprised if Waddell plays like shit against the Dogs.
I'm still waiting to hear about those patches you refer to...or were you just flapping your gums ? When did you see them or rather, where's the evidence.

You realise that Waddell has been around for a while right? At two different clubs before us?

I have stood up for Waddell more than most but it really isn't a secret that his career form has been very patchy.

I would have thought that the part where I wrote about him playing 10 games for the Knights in 2014 would indicate I knew he played elsewhere. I was asking superfreak what he based his criticism on . Fading in and out of games seems unlikely for a dummy half ! You'd think someone would notice!

Waddell has a history of fading in and out of games as well as making some pretty big errors. There is probably a reason the bloke hasn't played a huge amount of first grade compared to how long he has been around. Seems like many obviously have noticed.

I mean I like the guy but we don't have to pretend that he has been a superstar stuck in second for undefined and non-obvious reasons.

It was written as if this was a current thing. I suppose this fading in and out of games could have been back in 2013 but that's hardly an accusation levelled at hookers very often. I know what it was though. Time to move on. Perhaps this version will be a fulltime dummy half and not clock off and hide somewhere on the field while others do the work.

Fading in and out of games doesn't mean disappearing and moving to out of your position. It means he is not switched on consistently. But I'm sure you know that. There are periods where he just goes through the motions, doesn't concentrate, resulting in poor service, errors, and opportunities missed. There were no signs of that in his last two games for us, but it has been an issue in the past.

Knowing he played 10 games in 2014 is not the same as watching 10 games in 2014.

Fair enough..I didn't infer I'd watched him in 2014 as I'm sure you know. I myself never bothered watching Newcastle but I may have caught a game or two of their season. That was a response to b4's jab about him having played at two other clubs. What seems to be obvious though is that b4 and superfreak did in fact watch the last ten games of Newcastles 2014 season and are able to comment on Waddell's tendency to clock off.

Of course that raises a different question...why on earth did the worlds best coach play him for those ten games with such a terrible attitude and apparent laziness ? Mmmm, makes you wonder, definitely a puzzle that one. The two mentioned might know as they were casting their eyes over Waddell at the time !! Perhaps WBs hand was forced and he absolutely no one else to play the hooking role.

Quite surprisingly, WB said after those ten games, you're coming with me to Brisbane. I guess he was being fatherly and simply overlooked Waddell's absentminded ways and laziness, signing him to a two year deal out of kindness.

Anyway, all the floating straws have been clutched and we can move on hoping Waddell is able to keep his mind on the job.

Bennett went pretty deep earlier in the year (or last year) outlining Waddell's struggles, that bringing him here was not only to help his football but to help him as a man. Hopefully that answers your question.

You're always fairly keen to have a crack at other posters' grammar and so forth, so I would have expected you to get your infer/imply round the right way.

As I recall Wayne brought Waddell up here to help him out as Newcastle didn't want him. I think the lack of interest in Waddell is pretty reasonable as he makes for good depth and is cheap but wouldn't be in anyone's first 17.

He had a good game, but it'll take a few more to convince me he isn't a shit player. Jonathan Wright had a few good games in the past too.
