Made the origin squad by being awful hey? I realise we were pretty thin on troops for QLD last year but not to the point where we just picked anyone. Carrigan has some areas of his game that need improvement - but is far from our biggest issue in the team. Works hard, often for the whole game. Just needs to eliminate the trademark penalty/six again moments when he's getting tired.

27 man squad. They could barely field a team. I like Pat as a player but I don’t think that’s a huge deal. Plenty of stinkers have taken the field let alone made the extended squad, let alone during the biggest talent shortage.

The 14. Asiata defending one in from Niu so assuming he replaced Riki. On the other side - 16. Oates, Dearden and 20. Kennar with Mead were shot to bits every Cows spread.

Notice when the Cowboys scored their one try down the right side where Oates was defending? I'm not sure why he does it, but he keeps turning in which just leaves his outside backs stranded. Not that they were much better, how they even allowed Feldt to get to the line was embarrassing.

i thought they looked every bit the same as the 2020 broncos. Clueless, rudderless and non professional.

But we knew that was coming so it shouldn’t be all that disappointing.

Sadly Kevin looked and acted the same afterwards. Bit of a worry to put it bluntly.

I dont think you can put oates in the 17 if he is playing 2nd row maybe time in qld cup to learn the position is in order,wouldnt be shocked to see farnworth and arthas pairing on the left.
TPJ going to be very important to us i think hopefully he has a huge year.

• We sucked on metres gained, which i would say got cut down big time by the second half.
• Kick return metres died in the ass for some reason, would have to see cowboys kick placement second half.
• Average set distance also got brough back in the second half, that figure would be 50odd for first half.
• We did well with territory on our kicks! Much better than last year.

I watched the end of the first half, excellent viewing, don't remember the last time the Broncs looked good to watch like that :)

Take the positives from the game... I still think the Cows are a top 4 side so that performance will be more glass half full from the Broncs looking back at the end of the season.

I don't know if I am missing something but I was really happy with the trial. In the first half where are full team was there (keeping in mind that wasn't even our full team with guys like Milford and Farnworth to come in) I thought we looked amazing. Fit, fast, cohesive and dynamic. Yes we fell apart in the second half but this was when most of our starters went off and we had guys in key positions that should only be seen if we have another injury crisis like last year.

I think a lot of people are looking at the second half fail and lining that up with last year's second half fails and thinking we haven't changed at all. I completely get why you would think that but you need to account for the players that were on at that time (combined with a fullback that is still learning the position and some grand old fuckery from the refs. Even with the weakened team on those 2 grubber tries don't happen with a fullback that knows his defensive positioning and that Feldt try has never, ever been a try so remove those and it's 18 all.

The game is so one dimensional now, the cows in that second half really nailed how to play the game under the new rules, its just touch football, we really helped them with the errors and they just steamrolled us.

Speed in the play the ball and from dummy half, keep hitting it through the middle with that speed trying to get the defense back pedaling, earn some repeat sets and fatigue the opposition until they crack.

Then get the ball back and repeat. Its even harder now to turn momentum without mistakes.

But you can't just remove those two tries, they were legitimate tries and that same fullback is going to be there in two weeks time. The Feldt try was exactly what I wanted to see, not for any other reason than you know the refs are going to screw up decisions against us again and again. The response to that is telling, the capitulation again happened, that can't be cherry-picked. We were looking for resilience from our team and it wasn't there, not one little bit. The starters (some of them) also came back on and couldn't even stem the tide let alone turn it around and there were Lodge and Carrigan once again in the middle of it dropping off tackles and dropping balls.

So I guess to echo your sentiment, I can get why some would be excited after that first half, I was too and in fact I was VERY excited. Fast forward 40 minutes, nothing but deflated. The injuries have already started to strike and we all saw what our depth did out there in that second half.

I never said they weren't legitimate tries, I am simply saying once Isaako learns the role better they potentially don't happen and was simply trying to put point out that these didn't come about by the whole team fucking up.

Yes some starters came back on but the damage was down and as we have all discussed at nauseum it is nearly impossible to get back momentum with these new rules even for the best teams.
