Trial #3 vs. Warriors Pre-Match Discussion

Thats a strong side. Thats why I'm hoping the Broncos name a strong side also otherwise it wont be worth playing.

No it wont. You're right. What's the point of going to a sold out Dunedin with a half strength team to play a full strength ( only injuries have kept other first picks out ) Warriors team ?

It's televised too. People rightly have high expectations of these games and not just the Clubs fans....across the NRL. Some of these clashes are the best NRL games of the season ( certainly rank in the top three ) regular season games ( when you're not giving away feebies at Origin ).
Origin rorts wont happen this Year. The NRL have taken the Warriors out of the Origin Freebies and given their Byes during that period ( deliberate to make life harder for one club ).

So be it , fine , we've got a star studded line up finally with Two Marquee players in one Warriors team ( two players is the Warriors equivalent of Star Studded ) pretty much the first time in the clubs miserable history ( largely Miserable ).

There have been some bright lights....mostly provided by the Broncos giving us a good game and the Storm.

Last years trial was a very good game irrespective of the result for you all , it was a well played out preseason opener. Lets hope both clubs can continue it for the season and we reenact the Epic starter of this whole Warriors Broncos thing 1995 opening game of the season the New Auckland Warriors Versus the NRL Champions Brisbane, only this time it plays out at Homebush in October last game of the season.

Off-topic but I think Joe Ofahengaue is a smokey for David Hala's jersey for round 1.

Hope he gets a run in this trial and plays well.

Suia Matangi is a first pick Prop after his break out season last year. He will be in the 17 if fit come round one.

I really need to keep a closer eye on Matagi. He was seemingly guaranteed a starting spot all of last year & I just didn't notice him as much as I should have. Obviously the coaching staff rates him highly and he played well at the 9s so I'll be interested to see how he goes so I can form an adequate opinion. Keep in mind though, Vete really impressed me in your NYC team and his performance against Wigan was good too, so I could have it in a little for Matagi - who from memory has a great story.

In saying that, the bench I named was all in alphabetical order and was no indication of how I think the final 17 will look.

subs - I'll be very interested to see where Jo figures into Hook's plans. He's only 19, but already boasts a lot of positive qualities and definitely has a future in first grade if he continues developingn the way he is. I thought his performances off the bench for the NYC last year made a huge difference and really helped turn the tide in that final against the Tigers before the eventual heart break.

Round 1 might be a little early, but I'd be keen to see him blooded at some point. Kid can lay on a hit, no doubt about that.

agree on the redcliffe trial form, and i guess thats why hala is going to rockhampton with teh B side.

As for Albert Vete yes he is a prospect you're right there and his first foray against First grade Quality ( the Wigan trial you referred to ) was impressive ).
Matt Elliot isn't the worlds greatest coach , but one of the best changes he has instituted here is promoting the NYC guys like Vete to the NSW cup early so they are hardened off...it is why he fell out with NYC winning coach Akland and AKland left.

It is the right model , too often the Warriors promoted kids straight from the NYC to Fg and watched them flounder.

Vete is being left out for the same reasons Matangi and Gub could only get a hand full of games last year.....it seems once you make the NSW cup squad....under Elliot exposure to NRL is intermittent and gradual.

There are so many of the missing Forwards available this year , Injury willing we expect a successful season.

Should be in the next couple of hours. The nine's performance of some guys and the loss of Jodan Kahu have obviously given Anthony Griffin something to think about. Hey, working out the team might be giving him a head-ache and he has to sleep on it before he names the team.

Not naming the team is great for NOT promoting the game in NZ
How long has the dunderhead taken the name the team and why would the ALL the players who were already over in NZ fLy back home on Tuesday I think and then fly back over their 4 days later - what a waste of time and money if you ask me - he should have named the side Monday - flew blokes home who were not picked and the others fly over and train in a camp environment over there
But anyway I am not the coach and me thinks in about 5 or 6 weeks Hook wont be either!!!!!!

No one was ever going to stay there for a week. They are away from their families enough as it is during the season, why would the club want to make them stay there for a week for a trial?

Rogerwilco has already said why the delay is.
