What makes me giggle is the notion that you can be outside your home at 1.30am and there's no provocation. Yeah, I'm sure Watmough and Matai weren't drunk, and I'm sure they didn't react to anything from said polynesians and I'm sure they didn't say anything that might fire them up.

It would be good if you got bashed by 8 polynesian blokes. I'd love to see your reaction, it surely would have to be I must of done something to provoke them!

Seriously Coxy by all reports Watmough and Matai are the victims here stop twisting it to make it look like they are at fault unless you have evidence to prove so.

I regularly get home around midnight a fair bit and many times people have started me and my 2 cousins for no reason.
Just because you got bashed doesn't mean you must of provoked it.

Perhaps the others were drunk and started them unprovoked? It's not smart to put yourself in that situation I wouldn't walk near/past 8 group of guys at night because I know it's trouble but for god sake they could of been killed here and it's not like it's something they did to start it.

"The area is on a main road not in some back alley. I'm just grateful we are both OK.

"I want to make it clear we didn't retaliate or provoke the attack and we are happy to co-operate with police to aid them in their investigation."

The two players went to Matai's house after a night out on the Northern Beaches. Watmough left to get his taxi when he was approached by the group. Matai went to his aid and was "king hit" from behind.

Police said three men were involved in the attack but the players and a witness believe it was a gang of up to eight.

"I saw my attacker coming but not the punch," Matai said, "After that I can't remember a thing. I came good in hospital.

"I'm grateful Choc did what he did. It was a cowardly attack. One would think you are safe in front of your home but unfortunately that wasn't the case. I was out for a long time and I'm feeling like I've been run over by a bus."

Is it irresponsible to be standing at the front of your home at 1.30 am on a main road? Still there fault Coxy?
