Updated - Lockyer rules himself out of Manly match

Sorry mate, but that is grossly exaggerated. I go to Sydney on a regular base, as my company is based near Frenchs Forest, and I always stay at the Manly Pacific Hotel. From there I go to the company’s office or to visit customer sites as needed.
I get to Manly from the airport and vice versa in approx. 45 mins to an hour depending on traffic, and practically drive past the SFS doing so.

I live on the Gold Coast and it takes me more time to get to Suncorp, but unless my kid is playing at the same time (Friday nights), I don’t miss a Broncos game at the ground!

Just a remark on the NRL decision. It actually came up as a discussion recently on this forum.
If the game is ever to grow up to adulthood, playing at sphincters such as Brookvale, or Leichardt is not the way to go about it, much less during finals. Besides, why should clubs like the Dragons and Tigers be punished because they have more fans willing to put their bums on seats, while allowing the Manlys and Sharks of this world to play at their suburban grounds?

You are likely in a taxi and can use the bus lanes. That makes life a little easier travel wise. For normal people trying to get their via bus or driving it is a nightmare. I grew up in Harbord and lived there for 20 years. I moved to Mosman/Cremorne to get closer to work near the Casino, and even that took an hour of travel to get there.
It is perhaps one of the worst designed, thought out and laid out cities in the world.

I don't disagree with the sentiment of the game needing to move to bigger stadiums etc, however you need to look at it as practical measure. When Sydney puts large stadiums in as easy reach to the majority of the population as they have in Melbourne and Brisbane, then sure I support it.

For now though it isn't viable. Even getting back via free transport from Homebush (Telstra Stadium) is horrible. Being herded like cattle through the train platforms and what-not to sit in a tin can, only to be dumped at Central.

One of the main reasons I moved away from Sydney was because I was sick of trying to travel round there. You spend a whole weekend doing something as simple as going to the shops.

By the way I'm not talking myself up to be the most committed Broncos fan on this forum because there are do many others who show the same levels of passion and then some, just showing how Manly are ####.

I used to live in the country, 2.5 hours away from Brisbane, without a driver's licence (was a young fella). For 3 years in that situation I was a season ticket holder and didn't miss a game.

Probably half the time I'd talk my Mum and Dad into driving down to Brissy for the weekend so I could go to the game, but the other times it was a 4 hour bus trip (stopovers in Warwick, Aratula and Ipswich, plus going about 20km/hr over the gap).

Point I'm making - find a way to get to the fricking game!!! Your team is in the finals FFS!!!!!!!!!!! We've got people on this forum flying to Sydney for the game on Friday night - look at it any way you like, surely that's not easier that traveling 21km.

Manly = joke.

yes and there are plenty of Manly Supporters that are in the same boat, I know of some that went to all games regardless of where they were this year, one of them lives right near the SFS.

The thing is you are comparing yourself, and saying that every single fan should be the same, for many it just isn't practical.

And The Rock. My wife is from C Town, she's my westie :)

I'm sure there are Manly fans who make lots of effort also.

Also there are plenty of lazy Broncos fans like myself :P

edit.. why am I trying to defend Manly..

So if me and those Manly fans can travel 12 times a year to regular season games, why can't the others do it just once to see their team play FINALS football??

13,000 did.

For the rest they either had something on or weren't willing or were protesting.

Usually about 10 people from my family go to the games, no-one was able to for the final due to other commitments, but meh, don't forget, Melbourne got barely a few hundred more, and the Tigers crowd the first week was fairly low

Hope you stick around after this weekend, Danny. This has been a good conversation.

Nah, I always get a rental car at the airport, as I need to move around quite a bit, including to industrial estates, and a rental car with a GPS is cheaper and offers much more flexibility. Still doesn't take me more than 1 hour between Manly and the airport.

In SEQ, 95% of the footy patrons use the public transport to get to and from the stadiums (Suncorp or Skilled), as there is a restriction on parking in the stadiums area during events. Transport is always free, as it's included in the game's tickets or the season's memberships. Don't forget the Brisbane metropolitan area, is the largest in the world, so it's not exactly like we can walk 15 mins to the games!
Personally I prefer to drive up the M1 to Eight Mile Plains, where I park the car and take the bus directly to the stadium. The trip forth and back costs me 3 hours, but it's worth it to support my team in loco!
Yeah, we're priviledged that our club plays out of the cathedral of Rugby League, but pay it back by turning up to cheer our players from everywhere.

Given my frequent trips to Manly, I know a lot of people there can't be arsed. They feel entitled and superior, and would probably only do the effort if they were dropped off and picked up in limos...

entitled is probably the wrong word. but I know what you mean.

Dukey i will be back to either crow or congratulate :)

Try to stay off the computer on the weekends, renovating at the moment so have a list of chores as long as Tony Williams arms.

Anyway, I am off to be abused at Oz Tag (referee a few games)

Tigers crowd first week was 45,000

Melbourne had to compete with 90,000 people next door at the MCG.

i live about 8 minutes in a taxi from suncorp and i work two blocks from it (which has been awesome for friday night games). i cannot imagine having to travel the times spoken about here to games. counting myself lucky.

I used to go to a as many games as possible when I lived in Sydney but even getting to brookie from Mosman, neutral bay and cremorne was a hassle, as buses and the stupid spit bridge used to get in the way.

I can not tell you how many times I got stuck at the spit bridge when it went up at 2:30 trying to get there for a 3:00 game. God that bridge is the most antiquated and stupidest thing ever! for those that don't know, traffic stops several times a day so the bridge can go up and people can get their yachts through. It's already a traffic choke point, but adding that to it, is dumb

Cheers mate, you're a good sort... :haha:

I takes a pretty thick skin to hang around other club's forums, so good on ya!
We have a few fans of other teams in our midst, including a 50uff$ fan who is pretty laid back, but generally stays away from footy talk, instead focussing on the other topics in discussion here. I probably would too after 21 years being hopeless! :loser:
