Just from my own general knowledge I was always of belief that sprinters are always slowing down towards the end of a 100m race - ie they hit top speed at about 80m - and thereafter are losing momentum as they have pretty much depleted their instantaneous energy stores which have about a 8-9 second capacity. Obviously they can still generate energy, but not at the rapid rate they could over the first 8-9 seconds which leads to a drop in speed.
Yep - am sure. Have been involved in athletics my whole life as a runner and coach and my dad is also a top athletics coach. Have seen all the research studies and the 200m guys reach a faster meters per second speed and sustain it for a greater percentage of the race than the 100m guys.
