Tonight we got our first look at the new video ref bunker, and I was wondering what peoples initial impressions are.

Personally I liked it. although we only saw it briefly in the Broncos v Eels game (which i also like).

Decisions were made relatively quickly.

and it had the added bonus of the video ref describing his thought process for the audience (at least the home audience), which leaves little doubt why a try was given or denied.

Loved it. Luke Patten was able to make the correct decision because he had TV's at every angle

Worked a treat. Knowing the thought process is great because it now makes the video refs accountable.

I really liked it. I think it's a genuine improvement.

Really liked it. Don't care nearly enough for live crosses to the bunker.

They're making a real wank over it. 4 feeds on one screen. Serious tech.

So far so good.

I expect the live crosses to cut down as the season goes on though.

What's not to like about it?

I never understood the concerns for it. Were people worried the referees were going to make a mountain out of a mole-hill or something? If anything, it always sounded like a genuine improvement on what we've had and we've seen that since the Penrith/Parramatta trial where the refs were solving complex situations in a matter of seconds.

Of course I'm sure there's going to be one instance where it's going to come down to a gut call and one team isn't going to like it but that's just the way it goes.

It's good and I liked the shock clock as well, thought it kept everything really sharp.

To be expected. I wouldn't expect it to continue past the first few rounds.

Quick decisions. Correct decisions but I wonder if Paramatta fans agree.

A+

In fact, I thought the refing was the best we've seen for a very long time. All the decisions were made precisely and accurately and the bunker getting decisions correct in record speed time was a bonus. Even the touchies were getting decisions correct. Let's hope it stays this way for the rest of the season and doesn't get inconsistent like it usually does.

Very good, and a massive improvement over whatever they had before. Quick and correct decisions, although none of them was of high difficulty, and interestingly, all were categorical denying the onfield ref's decision.

I'll give it a thumbs up for tonight not just for the bunker but for all the officials. I thought they got it right the whole game and refereed the game very well, no controversial decisions at all if they keep it up consistently it will make for a far better season.

Another thing I liked is how they didn't go to the KFC bucket every time a try was scored and when they did it was for a good reason and the correct decision was made. It's better when they just make a call there because going to the video ref for almost each try just spoils the flow of the game.

I had posted something here but I dont want to take thread off topic and there is another place for what I posted which where it will fit better

I can't believe this is considered amazing and revolutionary. This should be the minimum standard.

TBH I thought they already had something similar, albeit with fewer staff and screens.

Having said all that, good work by the NRL to get it done, they did a good job last night. Plus, anything that can restore referee credibility in the eyes of fans is a positive.

I think the biggest change is that they control the video feed, they don't have to tell Nine or Fox what shot they want.

I'm liking the way we get to hear the process as the decision is made. It's certainly an improvement from last year.

There haven't been any particularly tough decisions yet, so it's hard to tell how effective it really is. It's clearly a better set-up, but I don't think it will end up to anywhere near as much as they are trying to hype it.

Long term there shouldn't be hype. It should be good enough to not be noticeable in future.
