OFFICIAL Walsh signs with the Broncos until 2025

Interesting development...

Reckon this tells us that O'Sullivan & the current Warriors owners did not have a amicable breakup..

Who knows, maybe the Dolphins have tried to sign multiple Warriors players behind their back whilst they were stuck in QLD?

Reminds me though of when i was a 19 year old living on the Gold Coast. I was a A-grade dickhead.

Cant blame Walsh for being the same at a similar age..

It makes me wonder though - how much freight are we letting go off next year? We wont be paying Lodge next season, thats maybe the Roosters?

Who else comes off our books? Maybe thats where some/all of the Walsh money is coming from?
Isaako was on good coin and Oates will be due a reduction so that's probably $600k between those two.

TPJ and Lodge fully off the books as well... and I think we must still have a chunk of cash available in the cap anyway.

Haas of course could be on his way out as well.. and no way do we pay a cent of that contract

Look, I love what TMM has brought to the side this year, we were competing for a top 4 spot for a good while and he has played no small part in it.....But you can't drag Mam now. Not as he's just beginning to adapt to first grade.

You bench Mam now, you will lose him to another club faster than you can squeeze a fart out.

I dont know much about him, but I think Ezra is a lot more level headed. I would actually say though if we are only keeping players in the team because we are scared they will throw a hissy fit and ask to leave if they get dropped, then i dont think they are the type of players we need around the club.

I think the other interesting thing in all of this i noticed they were talking about was Cobbo. He's been slated for fullback, but if we sign Walsh he's obviously going to play there. I havent really taken much notice, but have we signed Cobbo on potential fullback money or center money because in the scheme of things as it stands now, he's going to be on the wing next year earning top dollar. Still think its all pointing to Herbie as the fall guy in all this. We just cant afford Cobbo, Staggs, Walsh and Farnworth imo.

Players not re-signed:

Albert Kelly
Billy Walters
Corey Oates
David Mead
Deloise Hoeter
Jake Turpin
Keenan Palasia
Ryan James

Of these, we’re only likely to retain Walters, Oates, Palasia and maybe Hoeter.

We need to offload Niu and Arthars, and we probably won’t need Pereira. Then there’s the question of Payne Haas.

Pete O’Sullivan must have left on bad terms at the Warriors. I think there was some chat earlier when he went to the dolphins that the warriors were worried that he knew who was on what and who had clauses etc.
We’ve helped the warriors a fair bit lately and I think this is more of a Reece wants to go home situation rather then chasing the massive $.
I have no doubt Ikin and DD would only sign off on this if it’s good value for the club. I’d say they have seen a significant shift in attitude from Reece since he left early last year.
Many seem to forget we released Reece last year when we really had no obligation to.
Hopefully we keep them all, but somethings got to give. I hope it’s not the love bug.

I’m so interested to see how this plays out hahah

It kind of doesnt make sense in some ways because they havent targeted any Warriors plays. You could understand it if they did, but they havent.

Yeah the difference in defence would be hugely noticeable, but the one thing that Walsh does have, is that he's fucking vocal on the footy field.

If we are to get Walsh I'd probably prefer to get him at the end of the season and keep going with TMM at fullback... his organising of the defence and then tackling 1v1 has been a massive reason to our form.

If you get Walsh in at the end of the year you get a whole preseason to work his ass off purely on defence... his attack is fine and he can fit into a system straight away, but they absolutely need to get him up to speed with organising our defence.
I like this in theory, but we had the same issue with Isaako and Niu. Though Walsh is more vocal and has better game awareness. He’s the boss back there.

Hasnt it been only the media pushing him to fullback havent really seen anything from cobbo himself wanting to play there herbie on the other hand...

Unless Payne was to go..
The thing with Selwyn is does he himself want to play fullback or is it just a push from the media?
When asked in interviews what's his best position? Where do you want to play? He's always said anywhere in the back 5..
The only noise about him being the future fullback has only been speculation because really we don't/didn't have anyone else..
I'd be happy for Selwyn to become a Yow Yeh/Sailor type winger with a roving license like when Turbo plays for NSW.

I heard he wants to be a fullback, but i've also heard he wants to be a center. Pretty sure Locky said fullback was the plan for him when Fatty said something to him after a game.

Has anyone floated the possibility that Walsh is desperate for an out? He wants to come home? Could this be a master stroke where we pick him up cheap as ****? Or not possible?
I think we are getting a bargain for what he would go for on the open market for sure. I also believe it isn’t just Auckland he wants out of. He wants out of being the man I reckon. I just hope he doesn’t get to a stage where he misses it. I think he would develop leaps and bounds in a hopefully winning team but health for mine is the only thing that will stop us from being that next year. It’s a bargain from multiple circumstances but to think we are just going to pick him up for nothing is a little to unrealistic to expect.
