Fair, but Smith was one of the best on-field and easily out-played his opposite.

Point being, he isn't an unproven rookie who a friend of a friend happens to rate highly and he's the answer to all their problems. We know what he's capable of and he's one of the best dummy halves coming through.
Cook has been a bit overrated this year. He's fun to watch but he definitely capitalized on the Burgess brothers taking out their markers and giving him plenty of room to move. Won't have as much room playing in a team that doesn't offer that.

Cook has the makings of a one-season wonder, especially if Seibold bolts.

However Cook is head and shoulders the best number nine right now. For Brandon Smith to out-play him on debut is about as good as it gets.

David Furner is set to coach South Sydney in 2019 and turn his back on a lucrative contract with English club Leeds.
In the latest twist in the coaching merry-go-around, the Rabbitohs have given current coach Anthony Seibold until the end of this month to decide whether he will extend his contract at the club beyond the end of 2019.
Seibold is expected to say no, as he is eyeing the Broncos job, which is uncertain due to Wayne Bennett’s shaky relationship with the club.
That makes Seibold’s future at Souths untenable next season and the two are certain to part company.

Bennett was also linked with Souths but WWOS has been told the club prefers going with Furner, the current assistant coach of the Rabbitohs.
A former Kangaroo and premiership-winning forward at Canberra, Furner coached the Raiders with mixed results from 2009 to 2013.
He was recently appointed coach of Leeds but has a get-out clause in his deal.

Sounds good to me, make the call Seibold.

So according to that source the Rabbitohs will sack him early?
I'd like him to come on board as an assistant coach for this year, although I don't know if Bennett will allow that.

Seibold would probably coach the Broncos in 2019 in that scenario, with Wayne taking up one of his reported multitude of opportunities elsewhere.

Furner getting the Souths job over Bennett, is not only a slap in the face to Bennett, but incredibly stupid from Souths

I honestly think Bennett is retiring after next year and has declined both the Tigers and Souths who of course now say they're looking elsewhere to save face. Seibold will come next year as an assistant and learn from Bennett and get his team ready for 2020. Best case scenario in my opinion.

Wayne won’t be with us in 2019 if Seibs is appointed next week. It’s untennable and Seibs will not want a year out of the game, especially as he has only had 1 year as coach in the NRL. I dare say that Seibs would be smart enough to have written into whatever (if) he signs, stating he will be head coach from 2019.
Rabbits have made it clear they don’t want him in 2019 if he is not signing an extension with them.
I am guessing he will have all the pulling power if he chooses to accept Brisbane’s deal, it’s clear that they see him as their man, it’s more so whether or not he sees Brisbane as where he wants to be.

The Lurker is saying Seibold will coach the Broncos in 2020 and Rabbitohs will get Bennett in a swap because he wants out of Brisbane.

Lurker is the absolute worst for rumours, so I wouldn't read anything in to it.

With that being said, a straight swap makes the most sense. Bennett's desire is to coach an experienced squad capable of winning one last premiership with him, Souths are that, he'd presumably have the backing of the senior playing group as well, good relationship with the Burgai. Will just come down to 2 things, if Bennett is willing to move to Sydney, and if Crowe / Richardson want him. If both of those things are ticks, I could see him at Souths for sure.

I don't like the sound of Bennett at Souths tbh.

I have them finishing above us next year, regardless of who is coach. If and when that happens, if Bennett is in charge the media will use that as an excuse to stick the boot into the club again. "Look at that, they made the wrong call"

I genuinely believe that the media like kicking the boot into Wayne, rather then the Broncos as a club. A massive reason in why the club want him gone imo.
The media hates the way he handles them, and now that the NRL is seen more as a business he seems to attract alot of negative media attention - whether warranted or not.
How he supposedly left the Knights and St George (to a degree) is why the media love to see him fall, chuck in there a couple of disgruntled players that played under him also...
I worry the board enjoy how Kevvie deals with the media, instilling a club that is more media friendly doesn't win premierships however.

I’m still not convinced they’d be wrong.
