Wayne Bennett quits Knights... Is he coming back?

His contract was with Tinkler. So technically, he has seen it out.
Not according to the Newcastle Knights CEO:

Error Page

"But The Daily Telegraph can finally set the record straight with Knights CEO Matt Gidley confirming Bennett’s contract is with the club and he can’t be squeezed out unless he is paid out or is willing to go.

“Wayne is contracted to the Knights and so is the rest of his staff,” Gidley said.

“I’m not sure why the perception’s out there that he isn’t. I can’t answer that.”"

Great to see him leave a loser who in reality has taken the club backwards, recruiting old players who will only be playing the game another year or 2, and not developing the younger players very well - taking some of them backwards in fact.

Remember when half the regulars here on BHQ thought that he'd win a premiership with Newcastle, and that he would truly show us that he's the best coach in the game by winning one with them? lolzipops.

MOD NOTE: See this right here? This general attempt at baiting BHQ users? Don't do it and don't respond to it.

Get him back in a director role or consultancy for sure, this squad we have next year is premiership capable and I wonder what he could do with Kennedy.

St George and if your looking for an outsider Cowboys which would give him a challenge

I doubt the Cowboys will chase him .... they just hired Green.

so what's the plan if (and more than likely when) the broncos' season ends in the first weekend of the finals or we miss the eight altogether ? Turn up in 2015 and do it all again by the look of it ...

I hope our board is working on SOMETHING because it looks like another big ship is about to sail past ...

If he still wants to be a head coach, he can do it elsewhere.

This club can't live in the past. Unless we want to see a very similar style of play to that of Griffinball.

It would be a very bad mistake to sign Bennett as head coach.

If we did, then in 3 years when Bennett finally retires, the coach that follows him will have the pressure of following Bennett at the Broncos. And that will set us back in the long run. This club needs to prove that it can win without Bennett.

I hope the club is looking at options to coach us next season, I just hope one of those options is NOT Wayne Bennett.

Having said that I would take him back in another role, such as, retention and recruitment, scouting, director of coaching etc.

If there is anyone or anything preventing Bennett from returning, it's Boyd. There is just no place in the team for him. I would by no means be willing to drop Barba, Copley or Vidot to make room for him, especially after the sometimes gutless performances he put in at the Knights.

If Merge agree to take Boyd back, that's where Bennett will go too.

Unless Walters is his assistant for those 3 years, and then he becomes our head coach after Wayne retires. You can't work along side someone for that long and not pick up on everything he does.

St George...million to one. Only two clubs look like viable options. The Gold Coast or the Broncos. If it's the coast then I'd think he would be coach but if it's Brisbane, his protege would be being groomed to takeover after WB sets the club back on even keel. Hope it's us. I imagine Newcastle will be a strong club in the future with a lot of deadwood removed and new structures put in place. The incoming coach will probably reap benefits from WB.

Yep, that's the plan mate. Business as usual. Griffin has proven he can't bring us a premiership and has proven he isn't up to coaching this squad to anything more than mediocre at best.

But nothing changes, so the admin are obviously happy with this

Apparently all roads lead to the Dragons for Wayne and Darius is linked with the Bulldogs.

It's disappointing when a club as shit as the dragons can see an issue, get rid of the issue and actively try to improve the issue. Yet the broncos, once the most proactive club in the comp just sit back, twiddle their thumbs and pat each other on the back.

It's like griffins nonchalant attitude has rubbed off on not only the squad but the administration. Close enough is more than good enough.

Those folk who think the Broncos aren't doing anything must be really well connected inside the club to know that nothing's going on.

Unless you're not, and you just believe everything you read in the media...

Seriously though, do you guys not remember what happens every time Wayne Bennett's employment plans get leaked to the media?

Obviously we aren't connected inside the club, but we can only judge on what we see. Griffin has been here for 4 years and nothing seems to change with him, so one can only infer they are happy with his performance.

Granted for all we know the are searching high and low for a new coach, however griffin isn't acting like a man whose job is on the line...
