Wayne Bennett quits Knights... Is he coming back?

It'll be very interesting to see what happens if we miss out on Bennett and still decide to flick Hook if we don't make the top 4.

TBH I just hope that we do still give griffin the flick when we miss the top 4. I honestly feel like when we miss it they will just make excuses for him like 'we thought we had milford' 'Kahu was meant to be 6' 'We were close enough' 'dont have the cattle' etc etc

I imagine Newcastle will be a strong club in the future with a lot of deadwood removed and new structures put in place. The incoming coach will probably reap benefits from WB.
Reap the benefits from Bennett? what benefits? he took a decent team, let some good players go, brought his old boy favourites from the dragons, kept selecting his usual nuffies, and has now left them with a team of old players who aren't cutting it.

when the going gets tough he says "too hard, ill leave it to someone else to fix". he knows hes been a huge failure with the knights, so now is looking for another big pay day with another team who he thinks will have the roster to win a premiership already like he thought newcastle did. hes a mercenary for hire, only cares about money and doing as little work as possible to get it.

The ambush by Newcastle over the Storm in the finals last year was pure Bennett magic.

He knows how to prepare players for big occasions.

The whole of the Newcastle rugby league community is broken hearted by Tinkler and the McKinnon tradgedy. I would have thought Bennett would rise to that challenge as a final swan song.

Who are these good players that he let go? Cameron Ciraldo, Beau Henry, Shannon McDonnell, Wes Naiquama??

The only player that i can think of he let go from the Knights that could be classed as a good player is Albert Kelly, and thats still stretching it a bit.

I'm curious as to who you are referring to?

All things being equal from here (ie given no cataclysmic injury tolls), I would think Paul White's position as CEO would become close to untenable if he didn't stand firm and follow through on that declaration he made pre season ... at best he'd lose a tonne of respect from those around him.

Not according to the Newcastle Knights CEO:

Error Page

Great to see him leave a loser who in reality has taken the club backwards, recruiting old players who will only be playing the game another year or 2, and not developing the younger players very well - taking some of them backwards in fact.

It's also worth mentioning that Uate has gone backwards in Bennett's tenure at Newcastle. Uate was IMO the best winger in the game in 2010/2011 but has looked fragile ever since.

Uate has been finding some decent form lately. Sometimes players do just have bad form and it isn't the coaches fault.

Ambush? Beating a team, who had been playing bad footy for almost 3 months with slater basically playing broken, by 2 points with some very dubious decisions going their way isnt really what I'd call an ambush. It was pretty much expected by anyone who had half a clue about footy. there was no wonderful coaching in that game, no fantastic out of the box gameplan like the one that melbourne employed against the bulldogs in the 2012 final. it was a team beating a woefully out of sorts team that was on their last legs with their best players out on their feet.

If he knew how to prepare players for big occasions then what happened when they got pumped by 30 the next week, when they finally got matched against a team that could put up a fight?

Alrighty folks, this is about Bennett coming to Brisbane, not about whether Bennett rocks or he sucks - there is a thread for that.

If you can't play nice you know what's going to happen.

I can't see that Bennett could have done any better with Brisbane with the cattle that Griffin has had......

Yes, I would have too. It's really pretty weak of Bennett isn't it.

The reports are saying he's basically sacked himself / quit because he can't do any more with the team? That's pretty fucken piss poor on Wayne's part.

Looking for a club with better players.....can't work with the standard he's got at NTLE. The slurs that have dogged him for years about only being successful because of the players he's had around him must be true.

I think you are right. He coaches the same type of footy for the most part and we might have got Stagg or Lowrie in the 6 instead of Hoffman.

I don't think Bennett is the way forward certainly not as coach anyway. We need to look for something longer term. If he wanted to come back he should have done when he had the chance instead of going to the knights.
