It'll be very interesting to see what happens if we miss out on Bennett and still decide to flick Hook if we don't make the top 4.

Reap the benefits from Bennett? what benefits? he took a decent team, let some good players go, brought his old boy favourites from the dragons, kept selecting his usual nuffies, and has now left them with a team of old players who aren't cutting it.I imagine Newcastle will be a strong club in the future with a lot of deadwood removed and new structures put in place. The incoming coach will probably reap benefits from WB.

TBH I just hope that we do still give griffin the flick when we miss the top 4. I honestly feel like when we miss it they will just make excuses for him like 'we thought we had milford' 'Kahu was meant to be 6' 'We were close enough' 'dont have the cattle' etc etc

Great to see him leave a loser who in reality has taken the club backwards, recruiting old players who will only be playing the game another year or 2, and not developing the younger players very well - taking some of them backwards in fact.
It's also worth mentioning that Uate has gone backwards in Bennett's tenure at Newcastle. Uate was IMO the best winger in the game in 2010/2011 but has looked fragile ever since.
Ambush? Beating a team, who had been playing bad footy for almost 3 months with slater basically playing broken, by 2 points with some very dubious decisions going their way isnt really what I'd call an ambush. It was pretty much expected by anyone who had half a clue about footy. there was no wonderful coaching in that game, no fantastic out of the box gameplan like the one that melbourne employed against the bulldogs in the 2012 final. it was a team beating a woefully out of sorts team that was on their last legs with their best players out on their feet. The ambush by Newcastle over the Storm in the finals last year was pure Bennett magic.
He knows how to prepare players for big occasions.
The whole of the Newcastle rugby league community is broken hearted by Tinkler and the McKinnon tradgedy. I would have thought Bennett would rise to that challenge as a final swan song.

I can't see that Bennett could have done any better with Brisbane with the cattle that Griffin has had......
