Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Re: willie mason

Totally totally agree. Tall, strong prop that bennett would love IMHO

Agree too , but in an ideal world someone even a bit bigger would be better. How good would it be to have a Scott (the cowboy) or something that comes in a Burgess size.

Re: willie mason

I think that's why we need a Mason style player....for argument's sake

8. Hannant
9. McCollough
10. Mason/Garbutt/some other lunkhead prop (>190cm and >112kgs)
11. Maguire
12. Gillett
13. Parker

Maguire is pretty quick for a forward, reminds me of Watmough...I'd like to see him taking the third run rather than the second run

Then we wouldn't have a proper left (or right) edge back rower.

The current problem is that Thaiday skimps out on the running workload, and he's our 3rd middle forward.

Shillo is Burgess size mate...

Scott is a fair bit smaller that that, but is the best prop running around and a wet dream, as I can't imagine the Cows letting him go... besides he just got a new contract recently.

Re: Willie Mason

Props come in all sizes. Look at Sam Moa. The good ones all have aggression. McGuire has aggression, Dave Shilligton seems too nice, Bennett seems to pefer a few mutts in his forward pack ala B. Scott, J Smith and Mason.

Re: Willie Mason

Don't agree with this McGuire to back row shiz but I do like the idea of playing a power game and having massive second rowers who defend well and scare the opposition who just barge and smash rather than having these fancy dancy ones. I'd still have players like Gillett in the side but just off the bench for stints.

Oh no, I hope those two grown men have moved on from their argument on a footy field a few years later!

Seriously though, Barba didn't do anything in that tackle. It was the other bloke. We should sign Mason, get the other team to twist Reeds knee every week and then win premierships.

Nah mate, no chance. I'm fairly certain Mason through a jab at Barba over the allegations (read: most likely bullshit rumors) of him beating his girlfriend.

Re: Willie Mason

"He is a good kid, I have talked to him before and everyone makes mistakes.

"He has stuffed up a bit, but I hope for the game’s sake, his family’s sake, everyone who loves him, that he can come back and be as good as he was in 2012.

"He's such a talent and such a great person, the worst thing for the game to do would have been to say, 'see you later mate, do your best'."

That's 5 months after the incident on field..

I also seem to recall Mason talking to Barba after the game earlier in the year. I don't think there will be a problem..

why do we need an 'edge' backrower of any kind?

the first role of your pack is to get the team rolling forward by establishing dominance in the middle. we never do that.

Because it isn't the 90s anymore. There is a fine balance in how a side looks like. You want two edge forwards and you want to use them properly.

Sorry mate, disagree.

The first priority of the pack is to assert 'middle third' dominance (at least early). If they don't do that, then you don't win. Simple.

The ideal hit up (particularly coming out of trouble or from a kick off) rotation is - prop, prop, second row, second row - each make ten yards and you kick from half way.

With two edge backrowers, it looks like this - prop (10 yards), prop (10 yards), shift to edge backrower (5 yards past ad line), shift to other edge backrower or rubbish 'unders' play from half (3 yards past ad line)....your kicking from inside the 40 all the time....t

That's been part of our problem for the last few years...even the channel 9 commentators have noticed it.

Re: Willie Mason

Just because Bennett is coming back, there is no reason to start signing has beens
