Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Re: Russel Packer - possible link to Broncos

Wayne being the master of producing excellent props could do amazing things with him.
Could I ask where this train of thought has come from, as I've seen a few people mention it on here over the last week?

Is it because we had Webcke and Civoniceva?

Re: willie mason

He's too small. He makes bigger runs than Kennedy and Hannant, but he's too small, so he must be moved.
He's 2 cms shorter and 4 Kgs lighter than... Shane Webke was at his top. What was that guy doing in the props all his life?

Webcke - 183cm 112kg

Maguire - 180cm 106kg

So you're wrong on the stats, but leave that aside, Maguire isn't the dirt on Webcke's boots.

The job of the props is to bend the line, Maguire never does that (neither do the other forwards btw), otherwise why does Brisbane only make 30 - 35 yards a set?

He gets walked over by the Burgess brothers, Kasiano and their ilk.....just watch us play some of the bigger teams.

Maguire is not a prop. He needs to play second row or lock.

Well he does a fucking great impression of one then.

Who do you suppose plays prop then?

Oh, I'm sorry... 3 cms and a whole 6 kgs according to your info. That 1 cm and 2 kgs extra makes all the difference of course!

I am not comparing McGuire to Webke as players, I know better than that!
I am comparing their sizes, as for all intents and purposes, Webke was "small" for the position.

Re: Russel Packer - possible link to Broncos

Shane Webke, Petro Civinoceva, Brad Thorn, Nick Kenny (I feel that they got the absolute best out of Nick they could get), Ben Hannant, Greg Dowling, Andrew Gee (I also feel he was very average and they did well to get him to origin level,) Gavin Allen (another example of a prop that had limited skill and performed to the best he could)

I feel that he got the best out of some ordinary props and turned some bad ones into solid ones. He turned Mason around at the knights who was all but retired.

Re: willie mason

I tend to think Maguire is a bit on the small side also, but he partly makes up for it by always running at full speed. But we could sure do with a genuine big bopper or two. Mason ? Might be worth a punt if he comes cheap. Mayby might add a bit of sorely needed mongrel.

For cheap off the bench mason could be a great signing. We need some mongrel, because we have none

Disagree with Jed Allen, He had more skills than most of the rest of the list you have just made and also pulled of some real rib rattlers, just ask chief

Re: willie mason

Another back rower? Really? We are already a team of back rowers and full backs. Enough is enough. Glenn is a good back rower who just needs to get some quality ball and learn to pass it to Copley for starters.

We need a dominant prop. Milford and a dominant prop. That's it.

As for Mason, wtf? His days are over as far as I'm concerned. Won't he be 35 next year? I'd rather we develop our own than spend money on another retirement villa.

Re: willie mason

Totally agree, I file this under the same region as "Fui, moi, moi"....I don't think the idea of us needing size works out to buying way over the hill props...We would be better to save the money and throw the left over cash and what ever we have left after we pay someone to take Kennedy and put it into a decent forward. I mean if we are looking for forwards that are off contract and are borderline in terms of getting a few more years out of Dave Shillington would be much better buy and he is desperate to get back to Brisbane...
