Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Re: Darius Boyd return?

How do you know this?

The rumor is he is off to the Titans, but apparently their cap is bursting at the seams ... so not sure how they could afford him

I don't think the rumour is that he's off to the Titans, that was just speculated by someone on here, and I know that because someone with inside information told me so.

Re: willie mason

Beyond Kennedy, our frontrowers are midgets.

Hannant, Maguire, Parker, Thaiday (who I add for completeness).

Bigger teams just manhandle us (just watch us play Souths or the Warriors).

Which of our props have any 'size'?

These guys don't really get man handled around the ruck. When Bennett got to the Knights their front row was Snowden, Fa’aoso, Kaufusi, Tolar & Taia. Hardly any players to right home about in regards to metre eaters around the ruck. They don't all need to 6 ft 6 to excel they just need to be good at going forward which is what McGuire, Parker, Thaiday, Hannant & sometimes Kennedy can do

Re: Darius Boyd return?

IMO Barba and Milford won't be easy to fit into one team and in that case you offload Barba and keep Milford. After next year we will be paying quite a bit of money to Milford and Hunt so I would let Barba go now.
I would not take Boyd either I would use the serviceable and cheaper Hoffman

When Bennett arrived at Newcastle Snowden was an origin and test front rower and is still miles ahead of the other players listed.

He was an Origin and Test front rower that was dropped and never picked again. He is useless.

Snowden was made to look better by the Cronulla forward pack.

Re: Darius Boyd return?

If he does that, then he's a favoritist maniac. Even on his worst day this year, Barba has been more useful to us than Boyd has been for Newcastle.

But that just isn't true. I like Barba but I haven't seen him do this once this year.

Re: Darius Boyd return?

Even if we do let Barba go why the **** would we want Boyd when we can have Milford at fullback? Then you could spend Boyd's money on a half or groom Taylor for the role.

Re: willie mason

If he came really cheap and wouldn't mind being a bench player, then I don't mind if he does come.

I don't think it's the best move, anyway. We have Garbutt coming to the club, and our props would perform much better under Griffin so we don't necessarily need Mason.

I would prefer Broncos used the money to find another backrower. Another Eastwood would be good. I don't think Broncos should keep Glenn. He really isn't much of a forward, perhaps he should consider making the transition to the back line.

Another back rower? Really? We are already a team of back rowers and full backs. Enough is enough. Glenn is a good back rower who just needs to get some quality ball and learn to pass it to Copley for starters.

We need a dominant prop. Milford and a dominant prop. That's it.

As for Mason, wtf? His days are over as far as I'm concerned. Won't he be 35 next year? I'd rather we develop our own than spend money on another retirement villa.

Re: willie mason

None of these nuffies are coming, there is no cap space and we're not paying out any contracts.

Russel Packer - possible link to Broncos

While Packer is linked to a possible return to the game with Penrith as he is a favourite of Gus gould and with the loss of Tim Grant could fill a hole for them word has surfaced recently of a concerted effort from Broncos to make moves towards Packer upon his release in January. With the signing of Wayne Bennett who has maintained strong links to Packer during this tough period of his life in jail the chances of the Broncos being able to lure packer have increased. There is no doubt his aggressive style is something the Broncos pack needs and could be the missing jigsaw puzzle that they tried to find with the failed signing of Martin Kennedy. The real question is whether the risk outweighs the reward and also if the Broncs would be willing to give him a second chance. Wayne being the master of producing excellent props could do amazing things with him.
