Where have the true centres gone?

I seriously think that and furthermore, unless the evil Union/ESL steal him from the NRL, I think he will go down as one of the greatest.

Not like a channel 9 "greatest", I mean a true great.

The good thing about inglis is, i dont think we will ever have to go "oh remember 2009, inglis was playing great back then" like we have to reminisce about hodges. i think he will be a consistently awesome player for years to come.

That's one thing I will definitely give Inglis. He is far more consistent.

Did someone seriously suggest Hodges was as good as Renouf? Or just as influential for the Broncos? Second point could be argued, but the first is so LOLZ there's not enough Z's in the world to cover it.

Same would go for anyone comparing Inglis to Renouf. Renouf pwns him.

For now anyway, if inglis keeps this kind of dominance up for the rest of his career he could well be mentioned in the same breath as renouf

Those who think Hodges isn't as influencial as Inglis, can anyone give me an example of where Inglis has turned the game upside down when things weren't going the way of his team? Hodges sparked the Broncos back into the match in the 2006 Preliminary Final, and I can't really remember Inglis digging his team out of a tight spot.

Again, this is not an argument that Hodges is currently better than Inglis, but Hodges IMO has just as much, if not more, potential to turn a game on its head when things aren't going well for his team. You cannot underestimate his influence.

You can underestimate his influence when you don't rate him simply because he plays for the Broncos and has had a few injuries... Lets just see how Inglis is going when he is Hodges age and has a few injuries. For the record Inglis goes missing so often for the Storm. Slater is the only player keeping the Storm competitive this season..

I'll back Hodges to beat a defender and create a break out of nothing over Inglis anyday

I don't know if people are serious saying Hodges is nothing compared to inglis? WHAT?
In club games(at rep level I think Inglis is better hands down)I would take Hodges 99/100 over Inglis.
There are so many games where Inglis is completely MIA and plays like he doesn't want to be there. Hodges is trying his heart out in every game I see him and doesn't have injury problems to contend with and what not.

At their peak they're both just as good, at rep level Inglis is better, week to week if Hodges wasn't injured so much then Hodges is better.

That's just my opinion though.

I'm going to throw in a few more things!

I don't see much 'football' smarts yet in Inglis yet. He was brought up in a different system. All his glory is form him being an athlete not a footballer. That's what I think. Whether he gains some footy smarts in years to come remains to be seen.

Hodges, his a bit older and knows how to play a bit of footy imo. Sometimes he doesn't use his brain but he certainly used it in 06. It's a shame he went to the roosters and had that garbage run of form and what not. He won't be remembered as one of the greats by other supporters but I think Hodges has a place for the Bronco fan's of the modern era.

I don't really have a connection for Inglis, I reckon he's a freak and very glad he rips shite up for the Maroons - but nothing more or nothing less. The game has changed. There is not enough young 6's and 7's ripping it up so Channel 9 has to put these athletic centres on a pedestal and call them the 'best in the game'. Ridiculous.

Remember when Daley, Stuart, Langer, Fittler, Lockyer, Johns, Toovey were going around? To a lesser extent we had some J Taylor, Ikins, Walters, Barretts going around.

Barrett in his 20's was showing much more promise than kids going around now - not that he ended up living up to it. It just shows the difference! 6's and 7's are scarce!!!!!!!!!

You're kidding yourself if you don't think Inglis has 'football smarts'. Look at his second try in Origin 1 how he looked around, fooling the fullback putting him in 2 minds as to whether Inglis will run or pass, he absolutely pulled Kidley's pants down on that occasion and it had nothing to do with Inglis's athleticism. There's more examples than that to, the lines he runs out in the centres, his fending etc - this bloke is much more than just an athlete.

And you are sort of correct with your point about the 6's and 7's, but the game has changed since those days and fullbacks, centres and ball playing forwards are a lot more prominent.

LOL so true.
I actually meant that Inglis doesn't seem to have as many injuries and suspensions(which is Hodges fault) to contend with, it could be the age difference I guess.

I'm not so sure Jeba - maybe you've seen more Inglis games than me. His body is built for the modern game though - incredible quick play the balls when he wants to.
I still haven't seen enough 'football smarts' compared to a Hodges but I could be out of order, I've seen Hodges play like 100 times + compared to Inglis who I've seen maybe 50 at best?
Seriously though - the number of times Inglis is MIA is incredible. Perhaps an attitude thing. The important thing is, he's killing it for QLD and that is all I care about.

I agree on that. Hodges has his number when it comes to enthusiasm. Hodges is always looking to get involved, Inglis not as much.

Inglis is one of those guys you need to have negative articles stored away and make him read them before a game. Fire him up.

Hell, even make shit up. "I just heard your opposite number reckons he's going to pwn you tonight".
